All this boo hah about signings …. 07:21 - Jul 7 with 2176 views | Vic | I think we should remember that most of our recent have not been flagged before and have come as a bit of a surprise. So I expect our guys are feverishly beavering away on deals we have no idea about. At least I hope that’s the case!

All this boo hah about signings …. on 07:24 - Jul 7 with 2141 views | Dubtractor | To be honest, I just can't find the energy to get too stressed this early in pre season. Of course we need a bit of strengthening, especially up front, but I'll not get too concerned for at least another month.

Unless something happens in the next couple of days of course. [Post edited 7 Jul 2023 7:29]

All this boo hah about signings …. on 07:53 - Jul 7 with 1964 views | Churchman | You are right. They’ve made it clear how they like to do business and I see nothing wrong with that. In January I thought we might wind up with one or two additions. We finished with four. Davis last summer arrived out of the blue. I guess with several elements including cost, selling club demands, competition, player wishes, suitability, FFP, making space in the squad, bringing in players is an inexact science. If we can find a decent striker (Hirst or a player like him) or loan one in,sign Morsy on a longer contract I’d be happy with that. As for Simms, I’d never noticed or heard of the bloke until the last few weeks and I did watch Sunderland’s games last year. If anywhere near correct, it seems an awful lot of money for him. We’ll be ok. Patience.
All this boo hah about signings …. on 08:26 - Jul 7 with 1843 views | Stewart27 | The boo haa is embarrassing. Grown men are actually concerned that we haven’t signed a SECOND player yet. God knows what will happen when we lose our first game in the championship. I’m impatient and excited for signings and checking daily. But am not concerned and don’t see it as a fault of the club by not being held to ransom over Simms.

Part of me does miss the completely random players we used to sign. Some were flops (BajneR, Malacyzk) but some, well, a few, were pretty decent (Mr Kevin Bru had nearly 100 appearances and I bet no one had heard of him).

I don't think Kevin Bru would get anywhere near this side, but I get your point. [Post edited 7 Jul 2023 8:46]

Agreed. Nothing to panic about yet but I would guess the club hoped to have more than one deal over the line by now!

You never know, McKenna might have been just the type of manager to get Bru to the level consistently that he occasionally showed (which is what I hoped would have, possibly might still be, been the case with Simms.) And imagine if Jon Walters was at that young undiscovered stage in his career, and at that age right now, being brought into the squad from, say, Cheltenham Town...

Bru was rubbish. Never understand this appearance thing. We had lots of rubbish players who had to play because we had a rubbish squad. Therefore they had to make appearances in the league they were in. Doesn’t make them any better. Chambers made 179,454 championship appearances. We didn’t sign a right back in 5 years and centre back chambers had to play there.
All this boo hah about signings …. on 10:29 - Jul 7 with 1412 views | LankHenners | Whilst that's true to an extent and there's no need to hit the panic button, if anyone thinks the club are happy we're jetting off to Austria with no more signings through the door than the one we've got already then they're mad. Naturally the type of deals we want to get done will take some time, especially if they're coming from a Prem club as they often like to hang on to players for their big pre-season tours even if they're 95% sure they'll be making them available for loan/sale. Worth mentioning as well most of the deals done in the Championship so far have been end of contract ones and there are a few clubs who haven't done much at all. And it's true that all clubs want business done early but very rarely do things work out like that. That said, the noise out of the club/Ashton is we want to be ambitious, not stand still etc. but clearly it's been a frustrating time so far with deals being more expensive/more complicated than we might have initially thought. We're in a different league, literally and figuratively, now and we'll continue finding it tough to do deals we want to do when other clubs have parachute payments or cash from a big sale and are happy to pay a bit over value if it means landing a top target.

In disagreement. He was a regular starter in a Championship team that chased playoffs. [Post edited 7 Jul 2023 13:37]

That simply is just not true . One or two fans have voiced the concern that they would have liked us to get a striker in that's about it and most of us agree including Ashton and Kieran . Slight worry regards De ja vu but I am sure we are working hard to get a deal or two done . Pretty obvious we tried to get Simms but his fee got inflated, think Ashton was maybe suggesting this earlier in the week when he said something along the lines of we must keep our feet on the ground and not get into over reaching ourselves .
