He’s in there for what he is doing now, not what he did 12 months ago. If he was batting like he was last summer, no complaints from me, but he’s a shadow of that batsman at the moment. His glovework has been poor this series, no one can defend that.

Just to preface this with 'I know nothing' but the management simply appears to be sticking with the ethos which has brought success - ie sticking with players and showing faith in them. I see the opposing argument for sure and probably agree with it, but I can't blame them for continuing to stick to their guns.

I'm afraid it's starting to look like ideological dogma. I like Bairstow and he's done really well for England over the years but he's a liability behind the stumps at the moment. When you need to take 20 wickets to win a test, you cannot afford to make that 24 or more
