TWTD Hive mind on Ipswich 10:51 - Jul 11 with 3888 viewsjasondozzell

Recently moved to centre of Ipswich. My mum's family are from here and I grew up in Colchester so know the area a fair bit. My mum and uncle have helped a lot with recommendations etc but thought it would be useful to see what you all had to say!

Best independent shops?
Best villages/places to cycle out to?
Best places to run? (Love Christchurch Park!)
Best live music venue?
Best place for a pint of Guinness?
Best fish and chips?
Best pub? (Neck and neck between Arcade Tavern and Greyhound at the moment!)
Best place to buy records? (Found Out of Time and enjoyed hunting in there. Is there anywhere else?)
Best place on the waterfront?
Best place for breakfast?
Best cinema? (impressed with King Street!)
Best walks?
Best historical sites/museum/gallery? (I know last two both closed at the moment!)

Any other tips?

Cheers!

Best other tip is Foxhall, although I prefer Felixstowe
tip personally.

No great recommendations, but Coffee Link on the Waterfront I like; and re cycling: if you go off road the Finn (or Fynn) Valley is great - accessed via Ipswich Rugby fields.

And if, as I did just last week, you shop at LIDL in Handford Rd, you might, just might, spot your namesake strolling along as I did. And note that he strolls along just as he played!

Sounds great! Will try Coffee Link and get out into the valley! Thank you. Will keep my eyes peeled for Jason too!

Grazing Sheep on waterfront is very good for 'posh cafe' type stuff including brekkie.
The Waterfront Bistro (not the Bistro on the Quay) is my oreferred eatery, although Mariners good too. Check out both of their set lunch menus.
As you say, Arcade Tavern is great. Briarbank (back of Isaacs) was always good, although lately it has seemed slightly unloved and dirty.
Nacton Shores walk along the Orwell to Levington Lagoon is nice (just don't go there after dark, it had a bit of a...ahem....reputation).

You should try Hadleigh. Tip top tip.

On the cycling theme, Hadleigh is a good place to cycle out to. It is a bit of a cycling town. Lots of places to park the bike, Huffers cafe gets lots of cyclists, The King's Head is a good welcoming pub for cyclists, with a beer garden you can easily get your bike in, and it is a good base for some rather lovely locations to pedal through in the surounding area.

I pretty much only know Portman Road and the Arcade Street Tavern, both of which you are familiar with! Oh, and Kwan Thai. Kwan Thai is very good.

Best independent shops? St Nicholas and St Peters Street is the place to go for independents.

Best villages/places to cycle out to? As a cyclist myself, I'd say pretty much anywhere east or north and you are spoiled for choice. South and west has lovely villages too, but possibly harder to avoid busy traffic.

Best places to run? (Love Christchurch Park!) Depends how far you want to run!

Best live music venue? Check out Brighten the Corners website for lots of ipswich gigs. They have converted St Matthews baths and St Stephens Church into great music venues.

Best place for a pint of Guinness? No Idea

Best fish and chips? Not an expert, but the place next to tesco on Duke Street is good, as is Fry days on Norwich Road.

Best pub? (Neck and neck between Arcade Tavern and Greyhound at the moment!). I really like the Spread Eagle.

Best place to buy records? (Found Out of Time and enjoyed hunting in there. Is there anywhere else?) Hex Records worth a look for newer stuff.

Best place on the waterfront? Grazing Sheep.

Best place for breakfast? Grazing Sheep again. Applaud on St Peters Street is a superior coffee shop too.

Best cinema? (impressed with King Street!)

Best walks? I really like the walks around the beach at Nacton and Levington.

Best historical sites/museum/gallery? (I know last two both closed at the moment!) Dunno!

👍😁 Friend of mine was into Wooden Shjips. I hadn't heard anything but gave RCB a listen when I saw the gig advertised and immediately loved it.
