Until someone from a country with perhaps the worst LGBT rights in the world offers him a lot of money that is. I really respected him but like Gerrard he is a sell out.

Hmmmm a three year contract£ at 700,000 a week tax free for three years… even your infantile intellect might be able to work that out. - and I somehow doubt you’d turn it down either.. If you think that’s a sell out. Wait until Saudi Arabia appears in a redrawn map of Europe and their teams start wining the Chumps League

Oh dear, I suspect a fair amount of wining was responsible for that post.

For the average man in the street it’s very difficult to turn that down, but he isn’t that, him and his descendants are set for life, as someone said he has a contract worth £20m over 2 seasons already remaining.

If you don’t need the cash why not stick with your principles you declared previously.

Indeed he isn't that, they need to be shamed just like the LIV golfers were, to think Tiger Woods who is basically finished at the top level turned down $700m, that's just for joining, he put the good of the game before himself, plenty of others did too..

One thing I would agree with is that it's very easy for people to say they wouldn't take it when they know there is no chance of being offered a deal like that.

The reaction to the world cup in Qatar was an interesting watch. There were plenty saying they wouldn't watch a minute and i'm sure many didn't. There were quite a few whose stance softened the closer it got.

There's also the chance Henderson doesn't care that much about LGBT rights and just went along with it because he felt he had to.

I doubt he's losing any sleep over the reaction. He's probably already working on a plan to clean his image once he comes back.

That's the crux of the issue though, as I understand it. People who write about or work in football will tell you it can be very difficult to get footballers, especially those at the top level, to say even the mildest words of support for things outside of their often very narrow worldview.

That Henderson made such a point about LGBT inclusivity was unusual and meant it really resonated with LGBT football fans who now feel they've seriously let down by someone viewed almost as a hero in those circles.

For me that's why the whole discussion about money is a bit of a moot point, and even if everyone pretty much accepts that footballers on the whole are dim/immoral, I don't really get how people don't see this specific transfer as particularly egregious.

Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand.

Practically, if I am offered that money, it would be hard to turn down.

However, if I already had enormous wealth, as Henderson does, its much easier, and you are well placed to take a stand on principle....

You'd do the same if you were him.

No, I wouldn't.

I didn't watch a minute of the World Cup.

I have a long haul flight to NZ to make next year and will avoid the Gulf, even if it costs me or takes longer.

Some of us have principles, and stick to them.

Whilst I am an LGBTQ+ ally, an equally big issue for me here is the treatment of migrant workers who build the prestige project airports, hotels and stadia, in many of the Gulf States.

Totally agree. Lost all respect for him. And all the others taking Saudi money including Eddie Howe.

Not sure you can apply that to Eddie Howe, who is managing a historic English club. Unless you also want to apply it to every chelsea manager under abramovich, every City manager etc etc

Mainland USA, Hawaii, Fiji, NZ is the most appealing route.

Los Angeles or New York are possible.

Seoul is another option.

All will cost me more than going via huge air conditioned glass amphitheatres in 50+ degree Gulf States.

Although that may increase your carbon footprint. You're stuck between the devil and the deep blue sea.

Hey now, hey now, don't dream it's over
