Hladky - what do Town do? 14:02 - Aug 21 with 4701 viewsburnbudgiesburn

His contract is up at the end of the season, i'd assumed before Waltons injury we were happy to let it run out and for Slicker to take no.2

If he carries on like this, do we offer a new contract or do we listen to offers in January given he will have had a showcase in the Champ and decent keepers at this level are sought after?

Secure his value by extending his contract.

At this rate Walton will have to work to earn his place back. Hladky already has two clean sheets and a bl00dy fine performance against Sunderland.

I think Walton has better distribution (at least at this point) but it would be harsh to drop Hladky if he carries on performing at this level.

For that very reason he may refuse to sign it. His extended run in the team is likely to leave him wanting more and as well as he’s done, Walton when fit comes straight back in the side imho.

I suspect he’ll move on in the summer

Do we have an option of an extra year on his contract? If so, we don't have to do anything at this stage.

I don't believe so. I reckon we'll have offers for him in January if he keeps up his form until Walton returns.

Like the poster above mentions, he may be reticent to sign another contract in search of 1st team football elsewhere.

He cost us nothing has waited for his opportunity without a fuss.

I'd let him decide end of season and if he wants to go elsewhere let him leave on a free.

He could easily suffer a loss of form or a bad injury and then at 32 he’s up against it having probably not made much money in his career to date having player SPL and Salford.

Reckon he’d sign it if a new one put in front of him.

Doubt he would sign right now but if we could get him tied down it would be great.

Truly impaired.

I laugh at how many were writing Hdlaky off as soon as news of Walton's injury was announced .

Really pleased for Hdlaky. Just needed a run of games.

He cost us an undisclosed fee from Salford so wasn't free. Think I saw estimates of £250-350k on here at the time.

As much as I love Walton, if Hladky continues to be as amazing as he has been, I hope we stick with him even when Walton is back. He's waited so long for this, after admittedly not taking his chance under Cook (when he had Penney and Nsiala in front of him...).

I remember this is how Bart got his chance I think due to injuries with Gerken and it would be a shame to drop him as soon as possible if he's still producing.

Hadlky has performed well as a back up to Walton..
But that's his job, his squad role.. Walton returns as our No1, as soon as he's ready to..
Be nice to get Hladky on an extension, now that we've seen he is capable. As hes been very professional and low maintenance since he's been here. But he'll still be 2nd choice. So can't blame him if he wants to move on..

Amazing is overstating it imho. He’s played well and made some decent stops but that is what he’s paid to do. He’s good with the ball at his feet but Walton’s command of his box is much better. He walks straight back in the team when he’s fit imho…but it’s good to know that we have a reliable no 2

This. ITFC has had its value. I wouldn’t be surprised if he was sold in Jan nor if he preferred not to sign a new contract as a nailed on number two then left in the summer. Good luck if that’s how we part. If we offer a contract and he stays that’s great. I suppose there is a scenario where we sell Walton in the summer and Hladky becomes number 1 and Slicker becomes number 2 but not sure how likely that is. All I would say is that we have to start monetising players to keep the squad fresh and rotating and to satisfy value creation for FFP.

He will be 33 in November and whilst Hladky has put in a few decent performances and will continue to do so in Walton's absence, I do think he will want to move on in the summer unless he's told he will be the number one at Ipswich (I don't think so though). He deserves to be a number 1 and he will make a very good number 1 whether that's at a Championship club or a strong L1 club.

I imagine Slicker was signed to be the number 3 this season and then the number 2 from next summer with Hladky's departure in mind.

Walton will be turning 28 in November - he has got his best few years ahead of him now and he is an asset to us. I don't expect him to come straight back in once he's fit if Hladky is performing well, but long term he will be our number 1.

I've been really pleased with how Hladky has performed and the signs were there in the FA Cup run last season, so it shouldn't be too much of a surprise. That said, he makes some very erratic decisions at times. Maybe this will settle down the more time he spends in the side, but to me it seems like an innate trait that law of averages says will cost us at some point. For that reason, my gut says Walton will resume number one status fairly quickly after coming back to fitness, although as it stands he could have no arguments with being benched.

Good problem to have, I think we need to be offering Hladky an extension relatively soon and on his day he is spectacular. I just find it hard to believe that over the course of a season he would keep as many clean sheets as Walton.

Whatever happens we extend his contract so we at least get a decent fee if anybody comes knocking and then see what transpires. Still young for a keeper.

Hladky won’t concede any more goals all season and we’ll sell him to Man United for 70 million.

Agree, Hadlky hasn't been well thought of on this forum in the past.

He might be just one bad error, dodgy display away from folks crying out for Walton's return.
