Hope the fan at the Orient game is ok on 18:50 - Oct 4 by BrayBlue | Paused, perhaps, but for an hour?! What were the Medics doing, walking in pigeon-steps only? And how does anybody know if last night was a real emergency? I very much doubt the club bothered to follow up so you can forget about stadium bans! |
It takes a special kind of effort to accuse a bloke who died of a heart attack of faking it, a couple of posts below his death announcement. Or thinking that the possibility of people faking it is the biggest issue here.

OK, I’ll ask my original question in another way: how were incidents like this dealt with in the past? What has changed, that such an incident now leads to the match being abandoned? I mean absolutely no disrespect to the supporter who died, but I am genuinely interested to know what has changed, and why?

I don't think there has been many games called abandoned. Most have recently paused. As Keno said. This game was abandoned on consultation with the players who seemed effected by the situation.

Mate, just fcuk off. You're an absolute bellend.

I never accused anybody of anything.

You say you mean no disrespect and I'll take you on face value for that, but just go back and read your posts in this thread. At the very best they are extraordinarily insensitive. I genuinely thought it was a misguided attempt at some odd, edgy humour. A number of matches are affected every season for medical purposes. Many lead to the match being paused. Others lead to abandonments. On this occasion, the specific and individual circumstances led to the abandonment of the game. For example, I think I read that the casualty was being assisted on the side of the pitch. Clearly the match cannot continue. It's late, I'm tired and I can't really be bothered to engage with this anymore. Please just reflect on your comments. They're not cool.

Hope the fan at the Orient game is ok on 18:40 - Oct 4 by FrimleyBlue | We don't know if time could have saved him last night. The medical team had to go round the pitch rather than across is. Those seconds could have made a difference. I get where you're coming from. But I don't think people would be faking heart attacks. Otherwise you could just hand out stadium bans to those that tried it. But if it would make things quicker.. absolutely pause the game.. We paused for 7 minutes last night whilst a bloke walked off the pitch then back on it to go down with a broken nose. But you wouldn't want a game paused to potentially save a life? |

What has changed is that medical procedures have advanced to the point where lives that previously would have been lost can often be saved within a quick timeframe. Every second counts. I agree with Lagos. You’re a c**t for doubling down on this, despite being informed that this poor man had died.

Medical emergencies quite often need a lot of stabilisation before you can think about moving them. Otherwise, you end up with a second medical emergency whilst you're moving them.

Well, it meant that their condition could be properly assessed by qualified people at an Emergency Department with a view to being able to provide life saving treatment if that was deemed appropriate.

Doesn't matter what "way" you make your point, the fact you have gone on a tangent about fans abusing medical emergencies to stop games is sick. If you want a proper answer, I believe since Eriksen it was proven how acting quickly can make a difference. The first incident I can think of relating to the crowd is Newcastle Spurs, where one of the players pointed it out to the ref who then stopped the game and got the proper medical teams over.
