Big incident at Luton airport on 12:21 - Oct 11 with 3277 views | soupytwist | Blamed on EVs parked there of course. Although, according to the BBC report, Andy Hopkinson, Bedfordshire's chief fire officer, said the service had "no intelligence than to suggest it was anything other than an accidental fire". He said it was thought the fire started with a car, and then spread through the building. "It's believed to be diesel-powered, at this stage all subject to verification," [Post edited 11 Oct 2023 12:34]

Also confirmed this morning there were no sprinklers in the entire car park. How does a carpark get built in 2018 without any fire protection systems?

Sorry to hear that. Hope your motor is OK. If not, hopefully your insurance will cover it.

Cheers, apparently quite a few cars are undamaged but retrieving them will be the problem due to the collapsed sections.

Do you have an app where you can connect to your car? My car has one, it gives me location where it is etc. If its toast, then I imagine you'd get some message like "Sorry mate, your car is fooked" or something.

I do, it let me unlock and lock the doors ... but that's not to say the doors aren't spread over the site! Could have been a lot worse if it was 30 mins later as I would have been getting in it.

It’s a car park made out of concrete. It’s hardly going to catch fire is it? Oh.

Assume not required under the building regs for this type of building. In a case like that, the first thing getting dropped when tendering for the contract is fire suppression.

Sounds like it was actually a hybrid Range Rover. Diesel cars don't just burst into flames.

I think we may have stumbled across a solution to the dodgy concrete problem - just burn down all our schools and jobs a goodun.

Seems unlikely, I mean a Range Rover would have had to get to the car park without breaking down first…

Sprinklers would be totally useless in a car fire, whether it’s petrol diesel or battery.
