Anti-Jewish anger is at boiling point 10:56 - Oct 30 with 16631 views | blueasfook | Shocking scenes from Dagestan - a mainly Muslim Russian republic. Airport stormed and ransacked looking for Jews. God knows what they would have done to any Jews they might have found. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-67258332 EDIT - I see GB already posted about it below! [Post edited 30 Oct 2023 11:00]

Anti-Jewish anger is at boiling point on 10:53 - Nov 7 by Ryorry | I was referring to the protest march planned for later on, not the formal Remembrance Service at the Cenotaph, which I always take time out to observe, and would also like to be at in person if I could. I usually go to local ones on the day. |
I know you were and would. My post was very much a general one and I should have posted it not as a response. Apols.

Anti-Jewish anger is at boiling point on 12:10 - Nov 7 by noggin | Indeed. I'm all for freedom of protest but the march should be called off as a mark of compassion and respect. |
I don't see why, as it's not planned until after the Remembrance events and the organisers have said they will be "well away from Whitehall". It's also just another event in a sequence of events every Saturday. They aren't targeting the Cenotaph. And they are calling for a ceasefire or, in other words, compassion. There's no reason for any trouble unless groups go looking for each other. I suspect the vast majority of people attending the Cenotaph and the later protest will be peaceful. (I can't say I'd go on the Palestinian march, but I defend their right to peaceful protest). Unfortunately, the PM spreading lies about what's being planned has emboldened the usual hate mongers like Farage who are now stirring things up. Which I suspect was the plan.

Good point but just the very talk that there might be some trouble should be sufficient reason. It's one day a year where peace, quiet and reflection should be honoured, imho.

Depends how much that talk of trouble has been overblown I suppose. But fair enough - I certainly can't argue with it being a time for quiet reflection. There's far too little of that as it is.

That it would be held several hours after the Remembrance Service & parades at the Cenotaph had finished, and well away from that area, was my understanding too. Sadly, I think it's almost certain there'll be trouble at the protest/ceasefire march because of the extremist groups who are unlikely to resist the opportunity to piggyback onto it and exploit it for their own purposes. Unless the Met have for once done their homework well & make a good job (maybe with other forcesd drafted in?) of spottig known troublemakers & stepping in quickly if necessary.

With Braverman pouring oil on the fire, and taking into account the concerns of the Jewish community, not going ahead with the march is probably for the best but it is worth pointing out that Remembrance Sunday, not Armistice Day, is the day you speak of. This from Encyclopedia Britannica. After the conclusion of World War II, the British government, seeking to honour participants in both World Wars, officially replaced Armistice Day with the new Sunday observance, which was thereafter known as Remembrance Sunday. In 1956 the date was fixed as the second Sunday of the month. In recent years Armistice Day has been revived as an additional occasion for silence, though Remembrance Sunday remains the main day of commemoration.

People protesting their nation being bombed, obviously should not protest on a day where other people remember the awful sacrifices of war, the signing of an armistice, and say never again..... so it wouldn't be respectful or compassionate to people that wanted to attend both?

Like I said, I'm all for the freedom to protest. I'm not all for violence on a weekend of rememberence. Just my personal view. I won't be there so it won't affect me, either way. [Post edited 7 Nov 2023 16:35]
