Probably a good time to sell any shares! I'm sure it's all a conspiracy though.

It doesn't look like this changes anything we already knew. As in all vaccines and all medicines don't have a 100% safety rate. There are are always some side effects, and it looks like this case was brought by people and/or their families who unfortunately suffered the worst side effects (tragic ones, so very sad of course).

An utterly irresponsible framing of the story from the Telegraph too.

Very much so by the looks of it. I’ve not got a Telegraph subscription and not on Twitter, so hadn’t seen the details. I did find an Indian news site reporting on the Telegraph piece https://www.theweek.in/news/health/2023/11/09/landmark-legal-case-questions-effi

Just from this it was pretty clear the Telegraph were twisting the story straight from the off. GBeebies and The Express were pushing the same angle early on too - with some glee. It was quite easy to see they’re pandering to a certain demographic. Pretty irresponsible stuff that undermines public health efforts.

Not that I don’t think people shouldn’t get compensation when vaccinations (any medical intervention) goes wrong. People were encouraged to act in the best interests of all and take such vaccines in good faith. When there’s a problem they should absolutely be helped out/compensated for any losses.

I do have a free subscription to the Telegraph but couldn't be bothered to read the article because they twist everything. In fact, it is really not a serious newspaper these days, just an outlet to fight the culture wars.

It’s awful isn’t it. Pretty much on a par with The Sun these days for factual accuracy and seriousness.

You left a 'not' out there!

The DT has to be one of the most seriously crashed papers of all time. I've always disagreed with its political stance, but it used to be worth reading for its serious & relatively well fact-checked news. From that to now possibly being even worse than the Daily Fail is quite a swallow dive!

I think the issue here is not the side effects but the time it took for the UK government to ban its use in younger age groups.

I always sensed the vaccine rollout rushed ahead in the UK because of Johnson boosterism, British exceptionalism and a desire to get one-up on the EU.

Other countries were less gung-ho, and were criticised in the British media for their hesitation. But when the relative risk of blood clots for younger age groups became clear Germany, for example, banned the use of the vaccine for the under 60s on 31 March 2021. Had the UK taken that action at the same time, the victim in this case, aged 44, would not have been given the vaccine.

Well said, and to counter the ‘big pharma’ conspiracy tripe pushed by the likes of Brand, it’s worth pointing out that the AZ vaccine was provided at cost. There was no profit driven incentive to rapidly roll it out.

So what you're saying as that some of us were right to be sceptical when this 'emergency' roll out was being pushed on everyone of all ages? Without any short /medium / long term data of the side effects.

"Granny killers" wasn't it?

Unless you can show definitive evidence of how many were harmed against how many would have been harmed of it had not been rolled out, you are simply wrong.

The AZ jab has been withdrawn for under 40s. The risk of the side effects are more that catching Covid!

Would of been nice to have known this back then, wouldn't it.

My criticism is of the politicisation of the vaccine rollout, but I always thought it was up to the individual whether they took the vaccine, and never believed in making the vaccine compulsory.

Another factor that many people had to take into account was the fact that their catching Covid, whilst it might not have harmed them, might have put at risk elderly friends and relatives.

That was certainly my case, as a carer for my elderly mother, but I also didn't want to catch it myself.

The jab didn't stop you catching Covid though. People with 10 boosters (or whatever you're up to now) are still catching it.

But it not only reduces your chances of catching it, but also transmitting it.

It was scientifically proven, I cannot believe you don’t understand this after over two years unless you’ve been living in a cave, or Russell Brand’s basement.

I believe this to be another one of your lies on this subject.

Please post a peer reviewed paper showing this to be the case.

Also worth noting that at the time of the vaccination programme there was very low natural immunity and we were dealing with far more virulent variants.

Context is important.

I am not quite sure why you have to personalise this by saying "or whatever you're up to now".

As it is, I no longer qualify for a vaccine being nearly 64, but would take it if I could.

And I currently have Covid which, whilst not as bad as it could be, is worse than, and more long lasting, than any bad cold or flu I've ever had.
