Snus...never heard of it on 15:17 - Dec 5 with 3182 views | Sharkey | Players in England have been doing it for the last 20 years. I think it was Neil Lennon who brought it to the English game, after playing with Johann Mjällby for Celtic at the very beginning of the century. Swedish players were using it for many years before that.

Isn't it just the new name for snuff and related products? I remember That's Life doing features on mouth cancer caused by chewing tobacco years ago.

Snus...never heard of it on 16:06 - Dec 5 with 3036 views | TresBonne | I am a user of snus, and play football. Used to smoke, then vape, now snus. Very much preferred for me, noticeable difference sporting/athletic with nothing going into your lungs. Footballers absolutely love it in this country, Vardy, Sterling, think I even saw a pic of Jack Taylor and Woolfy with an outline of it in their trouser pocket. Also, that article is technically kind of wrong - 'snus' is the traditional version of it with tobacco in, modern engineering means we also now have nicotine pouches which contain no tobacco, no substance at all other than obviously nicotine, sweeteners and water - that's what most people use. I was out once with Alan Lee, and he was good friends with Phil Mulryne who was there and a few people doing it - he said he'd got into it via Peter Schmeichel so guess it goes back more than20 years...! Very popular in Scandinavia, always a lot around this area because of the speedway links - but if you aren't a smoker it can be seriously strong stuff - some people had it in the pub after the game at the weekend and one guy was saying how he'd had it recently and ended up effectively passed out for a few hours.....Gary Lineker told a story on a recent podcast saying it did the same to him

When we signed Luke Thomas on loan, it was very clearly in his trouser pocket

Yeah, no one has a good first snus experience lol. When you get used to it it's great for a quitting smoker. I've seen some catastrophes from mates giving it the big 'I am', trying one, then being in the toilet chucking up 10 mins later

That happened to me. 1 and only time I tried it and got a serious head rush and sickness, didn't physically throw up though. Was a bit surprised as I've smoked a bit in the past. Never been 'a smoker' but one of the annoying people who used to dabble when drunk. Not for years now though.

It's something to do with the % of nicotine your body takes in over a shorter period of time. Like when you smoke, your lungs take it and it slowly goes into the bloodstream into your head. But when you use snus/a pouch, it goes straight there. Quite interesting to be fair, you just experienced a bit of nic-sick, we've all been there. Basically a mini OD

Nicotine is a toxin - was actually used as the murder ‘weapon’ in one of Agatha Christie’s Poirot novels.
