Best album - a tricky one, because I've bought some excellent stuff that doesn't get a lot of played for various reasons(but mostly because they're very long, or doom metal based - which does not lend itself to a long summer). So I'm going to go with my most played -
Take Me Back To Eden by Sleep Token. A mash-up of nu-metal riffs with modern R&B styled hip hop, funk and soul shouldn't work as well as this and it almost certainly probably shouldn't appeal to blokes in their 40s like me, but it does, brilliantly so.
Bubbling under - 'Paint My Bedroom Black' Holly Humberstone, 'Strays' Margo Price, 'One In A Thousand' Obey Robots, 'The Weight of the Mask' Svalbard, 'Blackletter Garlan' Hack Poets Guild.
Compilation:
I've bought literally one, so it'll be this then - ' Anthology' by Nancy Kerr and Martin Simpson's The Magpie Arc. Electric folk-rock given a health injection of Led Zeppelin styled hard rock
Single - again, I don't but many of these, so I'm going to elect one from one of other favourites from this year because it has an 'official' video nd therefore MUST be a single, right?
Obey Robots - Porcupine

Best Album: Dream of America - Hannah Aldridge... dark country, americana, not entirely sure what genre you'd call it, but its atmospheric, smart, and musical.
This is one of the singles, but the album works best as a full listen
Best single: Kezia Gill - Whisky over Ice... just a good british country song

You should definitely check the Margo Price album then, if you haven't already. Excellent modern country.

It's very easy to get stuck in your own music echo chamber.
If its not a stupid question, how do you learn of new music that you're most likely to enjoy?
For me, a combination of trusted sites - I like Pitchfork for mainstream and indie type stuff, Angry Metal Guy(guess what that is), Louder Than War(indie and rock, but a heavy bent towards folk) and The Quietus(lots of REALLY good former Melody Maker writers, covers all sorts), specialist shows on both radio and net(Bandcamp's specialist radio shows in particular are excellent) and a kind of 'rummage through the bargain racks' approach to sites like Bandcamp where I click on a band I KNOw I like and then follow the recommends.

I follow loads of labels/magazines/bands/music journalists etc on social media. I read Magazines with decent music reviews too.
The other major thing for me is doing my radio show, so I get loads of music sent to me by bands and PR companies, which instantly switches me on to stuff I otherwise wouldn't hear.

agree with that, plus 6 music.
if you use spotify, the release radar playlist is good for new stuff.

Diamonds and Pearls Super Deluxe Edition.
A particularly favourite:
I've yet to dip into that one. Is it as expansive as Sign O' The Times Super Deluxe edition? Looking forward to hearing the Glam Slam live tracks when there is no one else in the house.

I rely almost entirely on this TWTD forum! which always throws up wonderful stuff, whether incidentally on threads that go 'off-track' (pun intended); or on specific music threads :) 🎶
But best album is a tie as I don't have the best compilation, I think that's allowed.
Davy Knowles - If I Should Wander
Striped down acoustic album that with heartfelt lyrics from the soul. Self-doubt as an artist, a father, a husband and as a human being that most of us can relate to some extent.
Extreme - Six
Pornograffitti was an absolute masterpiece of a rock album when it came out in 1991 and still is in 2023 IMO. I was majorly disappointed in their follow-up album, III Sides to Every Story, that came out a year or two later and pretty much lost interest in the band (that sounds awful). But this new album is properly back to form. I'm not normally much into the shredder guitarists, but Nuno Bettencourt is undoubtable one of the best players on the planet. His solo on "Rise" rightly being talked about all over the internet when the song hit YouTube. But my favourite song on the album, at a push, is "#Rebel".
Someone on here a few months back started a thread about musicians from Ipswich and someone (sorry, can't remember who), added a YouTube link to Bob Vylan (thank you so much). I subbed to him on YouTube from that day, and he has recently come out with this fantastic song.

played all the vids in the thread. I'd say your recommendations> Civic and Floodlights stand out for me.
some favs, I thought, were pretty weak there. I guess we all have different tastes.
Can't help feeling Blueas has something tho.
Mind - you can't out-Pixie The Pixies.
Nice to know someone appreciates my music tastes!
Re your comment about other choices, music is such a subjective thing, and I sort of love that something I may not get at all can be someone else's favourite thing. I'm also certain that a lot of stuff I like would have others diving for the off button!

I don't really do compilations or singles, so will add my three favourite albums. All hugely recommended to people who like guitars.
Frankie and the Witch Fingers - Data Doom
Floodlights - Painting of My Time
Civic - Taken by Force
For reasons similar to you, and because it's impossible to choose a favourite single, I've chosen a favourite album from my three favourite artists. But like Blueas, I'm stuck in a time warp.
As it is, Sandinista isn't generally regarded as the best Clash album, but I've chosen it because even though it misfires on occasions (as a triple album inevitably will do), it is the most eclectic album I've ever heard.
Imperial Bedroom by Elvis Costello. The track I've chosen is an astonishingly well-crafted song.
Leave Home by the Ramones, the track I've chose, California Sun, being a great cover.
Sandinista by the Clash. And although the song I've chosen has a carnival beat, it contains the lines.
The lawful force are here, of course For special offenders, for the special court But the young men know when the sun has set Darkness comes to settle the debt Owed by a year of S.U.S. and suspect Indiscriminate use of the power of arrest They're waiting for the sun to set
