Whatever league next season 18:48 - Mar 13 with 5939 viewscressi

I see a major rebuild the biggest since Cook came in. If we go up Davis May well stay if we don't probably leaves for big money to help rebuild the team and squad.
I only see about 10 to 12 players here in squad now who will be here next season.

There are quite a few things up in the air, but I think a relatively conservative guess gives it at about 16 current players in the 25 man squad for next year. No idea what the plans are for Ndaba and El Mizouni, but they would be relatively cheap back-ups for the 25-man squad so could see them here. I am just assuming that Donacien, Jackson, Ball and Edmundson will want first-team football, not saying they should be ditched:

Hladky

Clarke
Tuanzebe
Burgess
Woolfenden
Ndaba

Morsy
Luongo
Taylor
El Mizouni

Harness
Chaplin
Burns
Broadhead
Hirst
Al-Hamidi

Leaving:
Jackson, Aluko, Ladapo, Camara, Edmundson, Davis, Ball, Donacien

I can't see Tuanzebe hanging around to play back-up to Clarke either.

We've given him a shop window and i'd love to keep him, but he is better than a reserve RB

Half of our starting XI (or close to starting XI) isn't ours though.

That I guess is one of the bigger issues and one of the pains of the loan market. We may get some of them back like Omari, even so we will have a decent rebuild to do next season whatever league we are in.

Our starting 11 if everyone is fit probably wouldn’t contain a single loan player, but they are clearly important element of the squad, which will need to be replaced and arguably strengthened

It's not close to half our starting XI though, it's generally 3 players max one of who is only here to cover an injury

Ridiculous that you’ve been downvoted here.

We’re going to need players through the door. We have five loans, so even if we do keep them it’s contracts that will need sorting.

Left back needed.

Ball may not stay around.

Tuanzebe might fancy his chances elsewhere.

Aluko will be off, or move to coaching role.

That’s not including players of ours out on loan.

So yeah, big summer ahead and you’re probably correct in saying it’ll be the biggest from a player ins and outs perspective since the wrecking ball.

Why I said close to our starting XI, as subs have played such a critical role in our success this season.

As a minimum we are going to need to replace all those and to get the same quality at a price we can afford, we are going to need to be in the loan market again

What? That isn’t going to happen. Firstly because it doesn’t need it, secondly because it’s very difficult to get right and thirdly because KM has augmented his squad in each window since he’s been here, not made drastic changes.

Why don’t football fans learn from history!?

I think realistically the range of players at our club who will have Premier League suitors is pretty limited. Our run to 3rd hasn't convinced a lot of clubs that we've got brilliant individuals, the most in demand person involved will be McKenna.

As it stands, there's probably one obvious candidate for a move - Leif Davis - and two that might fit somebody's idea of a useful investment - Luke Woolfenden and Nathan Broadhead.

The rest either haven't proven enough this season (Hirst, Clarke) or are too old to get that kind of move (Burgess, Morsy, Luongo, Chaplin, Burns, Hladky).

I agree, probably not for the Premier League

I do think a number of our players will be very attractive to teams coming down with Parachute money, plus any of Leeds, Leicester, Soton if they don't go up this year.

They have rich pockets, much richer than we'd be allowed to be due to the rules - and players all have agents looking for the best deal.

McKenna is key. Players hopefully want to stay and play for him, unless the ££ is stratospheric.

There's an argument to be made that, injury-free, our strongest XI doesn't include any loans though, so not sure how you think "half our starting XI isn't ours". Every team needs to utilise the loan market in this division.

Take a look at the other 3 teams challenging for top 2, all have key players on loan. It's part and parcel of today's game

People are obsessed with all the current players either leaving or being let go.

Do subs count as part of the starting XI now?

I would say that Moore aside, none of our loan players could be classified as nailed on starters. Maybe Hutchinson but even then he comes in and fills the gaps when others are rested or out.

Moore is only here due to Hursts injury.

Which other subs would you say are starters for us?

I think it's pretty standard for clubs at our level to need to replace their loan players year on year. Although actually as it stands we'd not be in bad shape on that front - at the moment I'd say only Kieffer Moore and Omari Hutchinson are making really irreplaceable contributions. Jeremy Sarmiento and Lewis Travis are contributing here and there, Brandon Williams is AWOL.

Add in that Travis and Moore are probably available for transfer if we really wanted to make those moves happen, plus Sarmiento is reportedly available for a second loan year if we're interested.

To be fair, we’ve got 5 loan players who have all played key roles this season that will all end up likely going back to their parent clubs.

Then we have out of contract;
Ball
Burgess
Jackson
Aluko
Camara
Hladky
Tuanzebe
Donacien

Of which I can only see new deals for Burgess and Hladky.

Plus you’ve got potential loan/sales of Ladapo, El Mizouni, Ndaba & Ahadme again.

There could be potentially 10-15 leave - albeit not all key players - but that’s good chunk of players we’d need to replace, as they’ve all filled in at times over the last couple years and had their moments in the side.

I think we'll likely replace loans with loans, perhaps even 1 or 2 the same ones back if there are deals to be done on Hutchinson and Sarmiento. We'll obviously have Hirst back, his injury created the necessity for Moore, and young Al-Hamadi now of course.

As you say we'll then see fringe players move on, which happens every year but I would tend to view outside of the 'core'. I can't imagine there will or should be too much change in the core unless we're offered big money. The likes of Aluko, Ball, Camara, Ladapo, Donacien, Ahadme, El Mizouni have barely kicked a ball for us in months, and I dare say most wont ever again.

Think it's a mixture of the wording but also the thought of replacing firm fan favourites.

Regardless of individual opinions, it can't be denied that pretty much every player to play for the club in the past 2 years can easily be seen as a club legend. No not comparing them to the cup winners etc. But the fact that they have effectively represented the club in the exact way all fans want players to do so. On the pitch. Off the pitch etc etc.

It's been a fair while since you could say it will disappointing to see any player leave the club. But.. it will need to happen at some point.

a niche perspective

There will be no massive rebuild, what ever league we are in. A few will go and the loanees may not be renewed, but others will come in and McKenna will make us better.
