Glad now we didn't get Sam Gallagher 13:02 - May 5 with 3842 views | cbower | Moore did exactly what we needed of him and as that was a loan, if KM doesn’t see him as a permanent signing for us in the Premier League, we're not committed. Had Gallagher signed, we'd be committed to a player I personally don't see as good enough for the Premier League. Nice how things have worked out isn’t it!

Hmm..how many of our team are "Premiership players"? Davis, Burgess, Morsy, Hutchinson? OK - I felt the same when GB took us up & we finished 5th, but I think the wage gap is now so much bigger & even middling clubs are stuffed full of international players. [Post edited 5 May 2024 14:05]

Yes but in fairness saying anyone guaranteed promotion is ridiculous in January. Gallagher would have been an excellent signing to be honest at that point. He's done really well at Blackburn since he's been back and probably kept them up. But Moore has been absolutely spot on. Hope he stays.

Tuanzebe and Woolfenden for me. The thing is, the team is not a pick and mix squad as a number of PL squads are - the whole is greater than a sum of the parts. With some clever additions (who fit the dressing room) we have every chance of staying there.

Yes, I like Axel too. Woolfy could thrive in the PL as it is more technical, though still unsure about our level of pace at the back. We will get caught out playing a high line at PL level (see 2 games v Leeds).

I agree Hutchison and Davis. I also think maybe Hurst and Burns. Hurst holds it up so well and Burns is so direct. Not sure who else. Love Morsy, but think he will get caught out. Broadhead and Chaplin have seemed less effective as the season has gone on. The way we play it’s diff to know about our centre halves tbh.

Yes, floated cross to back post and big Keith powered it home. Just watched highlights and got annoyed again at Preston’s blatantly fire yards offside second goal.

It was miles offside wasn’t it, I don’t think our game is suited to Keiffer, good though he has been, we don’t get the ball in the box quickly. We are so much better with Hirst behind and pressing. I think we will look for a Hirst clone for competition for next season.

Hirst will be our #1 striker next season, unless we find better. As you say, his hold up play is superb & he suits our style. I don't think we will resort to hoofing it up to a big guy. Does it make sense to sign Kieffer (who will cost a fee) to be #2 striker? I think Al-Hamadi might well go out on loan.

Delap going to the highest bidder, so says X. Probably the most like for like version of Hirst out there that we came up against I would think? On the subject of pace at the back, I particularly loved Axel knocking the ball one side of his marker and sprinting round the other in the second half yesterday...

Both goalkeepers, Tuanzebe if he fully fit. Maybe Davis, Morsy, for a season, Hirst. Times were very different, but GBs squad had players with decent previous Premiership experience, Croft, Mowbray, Venus, Magilton, and also included several players who went on to have a good few years in the Premiership with other clubs. Wright (sort of) Bramble, Clapham, Scowcroft, Stewart.

I think Morsy is quality, you get some legs beside him and he will be decent in prem for couple of seasons.

Gallagher might have won us the league. Moore was a great signing. I would say that anyone that KM genuinely wanted in would be good enough.

I can see us taking Moore permanently for between £2 & 3M. Would be great back up with Premier League and International experience. He would have to be cheap, but I would be very happy for him to be sat on our bench.

Only if we're willing to spend that cash on a 3rd/4th choice striker. For me he's a Premier League Freddie Ladapo.

He knows the drill here, which is a massive advantage as we need to hit those first 5 games hard. We know what we would be getting in the Premier League, which for me, is a massive advantage.

I don't get the buzz with Moore. He's tall. Really handy when defending set pieces. But he slows us down so much and even tho hirst is the least experienced of the two he actually looked better when he came back from injury than moore did. Nice lad. But not a good option imo.

Agreed. He clearly isn't good enough to be a Premier League regular, and although he has improved with age, he will be 32 by the start of next season.

I did say with him on the bench. At £2-3M I think we could offer us a lot as a squad player.

Glad now we didn't get Sam Gallagher on 12:47 - May 6 with 2060 views | _clive_baker_ | I was happy at the time and still am now. It felt like a stop gap while Hirst was out and Moore did it perfectly well. Scored some vital goals straight from his debut off the bench through to Cov. Defends our own box brilliantly, held the ball up, did exactly what you would’ve expected of him and no disrespect to Jackson but he was that step up proper number 9 we needed with Hirst out. He did look like his was playing through injuries at times, and the Wales game seemed to kill him, but on balance we couldn’t have asked for a lot more from a January addition. Gallagher would’ve been a great signing for the last 4 months I imagine, but questionable whether he’s a) any better than Hirst and b) premier league quality. Filling the gap with a loan was perfect and we’re shopping in a different market now we’ve gone up.

There was a reason he was available from a prem club for loan. It's a no from me.
