And you think Labour will do better , Keir Starmer is a bigger clown than Boris ffs.

How so?

This sums it up for me. How anyone can still vote for them is baffling.

Nick Robinson: "there were three different prime ministers in a year, four different chancellors in a year, a home secretary sacked for six days then hired again and sacked again a year later, a prime minister who was forced out of office because he was judged to be lying by his own colleagues in Parliament, and another who even *you* think crashed the economy: Why on earth should people give the Conservatives another team?"

Rishi Sunak (long pause) "I'm really proud of what the Conservatives have done in office, when we came into office 14 years ago Labour had bankrupted the economy"

bcoz corbin!!!

I've tried to argue it with people but all they ever say is something along the lines of:

"They're all the same"
"I've always voted for them"
"they've tried their best"
"it will be worse under labour"

My father in law mentioned that the rubbish left after the promotion celebrations are a picture into what a Labour Government would be like. Like WTF?

Whereas having 3 PMs in one term is obviously a sensible way to run things.

I have and I've been disappointed in them.
I'm genuinely interested in how you think he is a bigger clown than Johnson though.

Yes, I think Labour will do better. I'm not massively enthusiastic but at least they have some vaguely competent people and aren't constantly dogged by sleaze and in fighting so they might actually get on with running the country. On what basis is Starmer a bigger clown than Johnson? Boris Johnson has been sacked for lying multiple times and his CV consists of being a mediocre, lazy hack and an ineffective politician. He is a self-serving narcissist. Starmer has a knighthood for his public service and has actually worked for a living doing meaningful work, he was director of public prosecutions. He's dull and uninspiring and I am not a huge fan, but you'd have to be a complete idiot to claim he's a bigger clown than Boris Johnson.

In terms of massive changes to public expenditure? With the state of our finances, I think he’ll be hamstrung for his first term. But I think we’ll see a massive change in honesty and decency. And whatever policies he dies bring forward will be for the right reasons and not because of how it plays to a certain section of our country. For starters, I don’t expect those fleeing war, violence and persecution in search of a better life to be demonised.

I'd like to think the disabled also wouldn't be attacked too, although KS has remained pretty quiet on anything to do with disability rights or benefits.

They *are* all the same. There will barely be a fag paper between their manifestos. Labour and the Tories all believe the same fundamental things now.

In the spirit of reconciliation and happiness at the end of the Banter Era (RIP) and as a result of promotion I have cleared out my ignore list. Look forwards to reading your posts!

Rachel Reeves does have form though.

Doubt you'll see any flights to Rwanda mentioned in the Labour manifesto.

Starmer, for his faults, doesn't strike me as a criminally inclined incompetent and corrupt bigot.

These days there are many areas of similarity but they aren't identical, there are still some areas of difference. As Stokie has mentioned, we won't be shipping people off to Rwanda under a Labour government and I seriously doubt a Labour government would ever have entertained such a ridiculous policy in the first place.

Interesting, thanks for sharing.

My main gripe, other than the total ignorance (wilful or otherwise) that the government display about those on benefits is the way that they intend to reform Doctors notes and Personal Independence Payments.

I fear that both of these reforms will have had iron clad contracts signed and sealed for third party companies to deliver these services before a new government is appointed and KS is forced to make the best of an awful situation.

That is true, and overall those in the shadow cabinet appear to be good eggs, but it doesn't detract from what Paul Johnson of the IFS said on the Today Programme this morning, namely,

"The numbers in the March budget, which Jeremy Hunt presented: he's talking about 1 per cent growth in public service spending over the next five years. ..... That implies really sharp cuts in most of the public sector because increases in defence and health spending will more than absorb that increase. And given that Rachel Reeves and Jeremy Hunt have signed up to precisely the same targets in terms of what should happen to debt over the next five years, that means they're both effectively signed up to those numbers. What I think concerns me about the campaign is that I don't think we are going to hear very much about that, because that leaves some really tough decisions after the election."

In addition, parking its tanks on Tory ground on many issues makes me think that Labour will, if elected, be rather beholden to the right wing media in many areas which do not involve spending.
