If you were the Man U owner.... 15:42 - May 23 with 2809 viewsitfcjoe

...why would you give Kieran McKenna the job ahead of Thomas Tuchel at this stage?

Poll: Club vs country? What would you choose

1. Because Tuchel has largely failed in his last two jobs.
2. Man utd keep going down a route of appointing an experienced manager and failing and might want to pivot.
3. McKenna knows the club and they know him.
4. They can see hes a brilliant coach and all this talk about step up is i think exaggerated. Its more go and do what youve done at this club.
5. Radcliffe and Brailsford are probably more your technical, performance and process focused type people rather than lumping on big names.

I think Tuchel may have just saved the day. He's surely gonna be seen as way more experienced and less of a risk.

I'm not saying they'd offer it to Mckenna over Tuchel but why is Tuchel such a draw. Nothing that great at Chelsea, and other than a decent Champs league run with Munich they have been dire in the league (by their standards).

The performances were really poor and had it not been for Kane they would have really struggled.

Poll: Is it now time to sack Paul Cook?

Because Arsenal gave the job Arteta and if football people actually know what they are doing and they are willing to give the project enough time, it really works to back someone with a lot of potential. It's not that much of a leap of faith when you compare it to us hiring him in League One. Don't forget they know him.

And if he does that his pay will go up to that level and not save you anything surely?

Meant compensation more than anything, plus cost of bringing players/coaches/analysts.

One thing that hasn't been spoken about so much is the potential of McKenna going and absolutely gutting our backroom to take with him, on-field and off.

I wouldn’t. They need stability, experience and proven international class at the very highest level. KM isn’t this. They should be shopping for the Zidane’s first, then the Potch’s.

Looks like Man Utd owners agree with you

I also can't see why McKenna would go to Chelsea when he'd have zero control over recruitment, 3 people above him dictating style/tactics they want to see and PSR embargoes being threatened.

Brighton still appears the obvious fit if he goes.

Kieran isn't a yes man at all though.

Neither was Potter when he was at Brighton. The players, especially the senior ones, at Chelsea didn't want him so they put pressure on the owners and Potter ended up going with what the owners told him.

Potter still had little to no say in transfers at Brighton. Chelsea and Brighton have both parted ways with their managers (good ones that had done decent jobs as well) this summer because they weren't willing to have no say in recruitment. McKenna has been so hands on here and so involved in everything, including recruitment.

I think thats a good comparison. Arteta was arguably a bigger gamble as he had zero management experience and it could all have been about Pep.

McKenna has been coach at Man U and managed successfully.

Think we've been rather unlucky that McKenna is flavour of the month just when things are a bit weird at two of the Big 6.

Don't think Abramovic's Chelsea or Glazer's Manchester United even briefly cast their eye over Championship managers. Liverpool, Arsenal, Spurs or Manchester City's current regimes wouldn't either.

They didn’t before! Called him a PE teacher apparently.

Read somewhere that the Man Utd players thought he was boring. To many stats or something. They don't deserve him.
