Interested in others views.

United have probably told his representatives that they’ll either stick with EtH or go with another, Tuchel, Poch etc but not KM right now.

Chelsea moved on to Maresca which is a done deal.

Therefore came down to a stay at Town with improved terms or go to Brighton decision. Reckon we’ve managed to fend them off with a bumper contract, maybe some sort of United release clause, assurances re signings etc. And he’s staying put.

Thoughts?

I've no problem if he leaves for Man Utd, but would be gutted if he left for Brighton.

Can see a scenario where ETH remains in charge next season and if ITFC have a good season (not sure what United think good looks like) then the job will be his next summer.

Again Ur making stuff up.

He was never leaving and everyone got caught up believing everything they read

We have it on good authority that he was incredibly close to joining Crystal Palace in February, so I don't place much credence in this viewpoint to be honest.

My belief is there was never a formal offer from any of the three clubs linked, and it was looking less likely there would be. They sounded out interest via the agent, stick KM on their shortlist, then continued to look at others. So I think in the end it wasn’t a hard decision, as pleased and relieved as I will be when he signs the dotted line.

"Perhaps it’s testament to how long we’ve been away and how quickly KmcK has got us here, but the Prem and the circus around it is an alien world to much of our fanbase. It’s nothing like it was last time we were here."

Deserves a post of its own...we haven't kicked a ball yet in the Prem, so quickly need to get used to all the rumour, guessing and speculation; some of the discussion about KMcK has been pretty unpleasant - hopefully some will have learned their lesson for when the transfer window opens and our players (as they inevitably will) get linked with moves which may not materialise. Didn't have the quagmire of social media in the mix the last time we were here either to pile on top of the info from other sources.

They won't because they're entitled and care about their own opinion and emotions above all else. They're the type of hypocrites who would fawn all over him to his face etc. Duality of man and all that innit.

The addition/expansion of social media this time around has been really pointed. It's only going to get worse now we have foreign interest and the novelty act.

Whilst we'd have all been really disappointed and annoyed with him if he had chosen to go to Brighton, you cannot underestimate the size of the decision he has just made and the pulling power of our owners. We shouldn't really have any right to fend off Brighton.

Sounds like he's turned down Palace and Brighton now in the space of 4 months. Teams that finished 10th and 11th in the PL this season. Think it is pretty reasonable to say that if he keeps us up this year, we are only in danger of losing him to one of the 'big 8'. Through his own success and the power of the project/owners, we've narrowed down the pool of clubs that are an upgrade on us considerably.

How devastating would that have been if he had gone to palarse in Feb.

I agree clive. And with the point BloomBlue raises: he may well have taken confidence from Kompany's treatment this summer, allaying the feared consequences of relegation. Enough outside voices have perhaps reassured him that a tough season with us wouldn't be career-defining or necessarily damaging, as most recognise the challenges in front of him/us. Bring them on!

And Kompany hasn't won EFL Championship Manager of the Year, LMA Championship Manager of the Year and LMA Manager of the Year.

Unless he has an absolute doozy of a season and fails miserably, he won't be considered any differently than he currently is.

If people like SAF rate him, he won't be short of offers anytime soon.

Yes, it looked bleak last week but - conversely - the Chelsea and United interest made me more relaxed about the situation. If those clubs have him on a short list now then there’s no need for a stepping stone. It’s obviously cost us but could be worth it if he keeps us up, and our chances of that happening are certainly enhanced by McK staying.

I’m also less worried that McK wants to consider his options than the entire media circus around it; that’s been very grim.

I am not getting the thoughts on the agents involvement here. I am not sure they would be touting McKenna for Man UTD and Chelsea, that happens at lower level when an agent has to physically find a suitor. The united/Chelsea types would contact liaise with his agent and see if a conversation is there to be had and he could hardly refuse them.

At least that’s the way it works in my sport. I think KM has been spot on.

OP : Id say that pretty much spot on. I think Mckenna is to only likely to really want the Utd job : Ha they offered it ( they didn't for reason stated ), he'd have gone, fair enough . Other PL jobs? Not sure hes really interested in them , as its easier to stay here especially if terms are increased. Hes got what he wants atm , to manage in the PL . We arent placing too many demands on him , such that he'd be getting at other PL clubs. That's not to say we do not have high expectations. We do, and to be fair his expectations match ours , so there's no need to "demands" because hes more than delivering atm .

When Man Utd come calling again...he'll go .

Can't say I feel enthused to his loyalty. Will be tarnished a bit foe me from now, but I'll get over it.

By my reckoning over the last 10 days all we've discovered is that at least some of the people around McKenna were keen to tell the press he wanted to move on, potentially to any of the three.

Don't think anyone in the press had an inside line to KM himself and the people around him could mean agent, close acquaintances, people on his staff, anyone really.

Beyond that, are we in much of a position to speculate? The person briefing the press could have been an agent, they could have been generically doing their job by generating interest in their client or could have been specifically instructed to get a specific offer that didn't materialise. Or instead of an agent, it could have been any acquaintance close enough (friend, family, staff) that the press thought they could justify a story off it. The stories seemed to stop near the end of last week - which could be KM telling someone talking out of turn to knock it off or it could be KM initially wanted to leave and changed his mind.

We can't know but provided everything works out, I'm just going to assume the best in our manager and look forward to next season.

Sorry what have I ‘made up’? You’re clearly incapable of deducing speculation from something presented as fact.

If he wasn't ever leaving, why not state that 10 days ago
