It'd be so Ipswich after all this grief... 17:04 - May 27 with 5238 viewsSE1blue

to secure McKenna or 5 years at £10 million a year, only for Kieran to be utterly clueless in the premier league, signing the likes of Maguire and Henderson and some bloke from Italy who will only play on Thursdays due to an addiction to Bunga Bunga parties.

I'd still love him though.

I guess it is fans of a certain age, but I don't get this "so Ipswich" stuff.

We have had 15-20 dire years. Before that "so Ipswich" involved winning the top flight at our first attempt, building a side that was among the best in Europe for a decade, getting promoted playing quality football under John Lyall to be founder members of the Premier League, getting European football for consecutive seasons under Burley.

This current "so Ipswich" doesn't resonate with me but I guess it must with those under 30 and little real knowledge of our history.

It was meant as a light hearted comment after the grief of this week but OK.

And if you ignore the dismantling of our Europe-conquering team post Robson (having bought the Pioneer Stand), the decline under Ferguson and Duncan, the always the bridesmaid and never the bride playoffs and the eventual sale to Evans, then yes, your patronizing last line is correct.

I'd be buzzing if we got Maguire (which obviously we can't afford)...a class defender that morons in the tabloid media tried to destroy (appealing to certain meathead types who immediately joined the bandwagon).

Obviously as someone suggested the other day we'll be getting Varane 🤣

I don't like Maguire's face at all, but he would be a cult figure at PR if KMcK ever brought him here - and that would be "so McKenna".

A curious ITFC history fact:

Did you know that Ipswich player Vernon Lewis during a visit of Bostonian and Wombwell’s Menagerie in Dec 1909 announced his intention of entering the lions’ den every evening at 8.30? He was as good as his word and was presented with a gold watch by lion-tamer Captain Wombwell for his courage. (Ken Rice’s brilliant 1973 book ‘Ipswich’).

Beats the hell out of Butcher’s measly bloody bandage England effort!

I'm sorry to hear that you don't like Maguire's face. When I talk to him he speaks so highly of yours.

Valid, but that 15-20 years is a long time. Anyone under say about 30 only knows us as a bit of a basket case until 2 years ago.

Ah yes, who would want Maguire, the 63 time capped England international and United vice captain who is still only 31!

Even Henderson is only one year older than Morsy, with 80 caps and having won every major trophy in club football.

Is that Harry's younger brother? I know I don't follow Emgland very closely but didn't realise he had made 63 international appearances!

Neat little edit while I checked he wasn't really only 21!

Haha, the edit was to add the Henderson bit, I had not realised until then

As for the 31 year old, he has been one of the first names on the team sheet for years and has largely been solid.

The Maguire of his Leicester days is a quality player. I don't think it is fair to judge him on his time at United alone. He certainly has a lot of potential but would also be above the market we are shopping in.
