Not going to get a lot of sympathy with that approach are they? I’ve got an idea. How about they go on the average wage and work no more than 40 hours per week including training and traveling to games?

Or how about not going half way round the world to play meaningless friendly a week after the season has ended.
Clearly Newcastle don’t feel their players are over tired and play too much if they can play a game in Australia a week after the season has ended.

The whole thing is becoming a sick joke now.

Oh please feel sorry for us, we are multi millionaires with all our money coming from a sport we chose to play. But the money we earn seems to be connected with the effort we put in.

Help us

It's a horrible argument to use, but from a physical point of view they have a point. But they could have a go at their clubs as well for organising money spinning friendlies at the end of the season (*cough* Newcastle and Tottenham *cough*).

The Club Cup does not need to be contested between 32 teams. The Champions League format didn't need to be changed. The Conference League didn't need to be created. The World Cup doesn't need to be expanded to 48 teams. It's just about money and, yeah, bad argument as it is, it will not be good for the health of the players.

Do you think the players wanted to go and play those friendlies? I find it strange that players who speak about being overworked always get this reaction, the idea that because they are paid well they should just put up with whatever comes with it. They are playing more games than any previous generation of players, and the games are played at a significantly higher tempo, resulting in more muscle injuries despite the obvious advances in sports science. Yes they are well paid, but you don't have to try hard to find examples of how the relentless schedule (and regular injury setbacks) can be really damaging to the wellbeing of players.

The people behind the scenes are the only ones that seem to benefit from squeezing more and more games into the schedule, and I am sure they are quite happy to sit back and watch the reaction players get when they speak out about the effect it has.

Higher tempo but I wonder how many more minutes players actually play now than in the previous century. It’s not that long ago you couldn’t make subs it could only name 3 players on bench one of which was often a GK.

Players have incredible facilities for rest and recuperation and many other treatments now.

They only play at an intense period for 10-15 years max while at their fittest. They are pampered pre Madonna’s and are out of touch with reality. Sorry you’ll get no sympathy from me.

I’d have more sympathy for the likes of players on a few 100quid playing on quagmires and having to play 3 games a week towards the end of the season such as Truro this season for example. I don’t hear them moaning.

The top boys get 2-3 weeks off in a summer , most summers and 6 weeks if they are lucky. I do have some sympathy that’s tough, physically and mentally especially in those shorter summer breaks.

Do we want a game where players love playing and are up for every game, or where it has become and endless chore for them?

Nothing to do with feeling sorry for people. Playing high level sport is a physical and mental drain. The amount they are now playing is absurd, with only a very short break each summer. Too many silly competitions. Europa league totally unecessary. Too many clubs doing tours to cash in, too many pointless internationals. The issue is not FA cup replays by the way....
