I was today years old when I found out Step On by The Happy Mondays is a cover version. Every day’s a school day.

Here goes...

The Taylor Swift album Folklore, written with the assistance of The National's Aaron Dessner is a modern day masterpiece.

I don't think that's embarrassing, lots of covers out there including "The Best" sung by Tina Turner, originally Bonny Tyler.

Embarrassing is having "Woman in Love" by Babs Streisand on your spotify list. Apparently.

Worked in or studied music most of my life, and if I'm ever asked to give examples of perfectly crafted pop songs, this one makes the shortlist

I once went to a Neil Sedaka gig.

It was less ‘Oh! Carol’ and more ‘oh god get me outta here’.

Edit: The warm up was Peter Sarstedt. It wasn’t good.

For years I thought Boy George said

Loving would be easy if your colours were like my dreams
Red, golden dreams.

It took a karaoke night at the Hare and Hounds to blow my mind on that one.

I love that they were originally called "Mrs. Williams' Grandchildren" - Mrs Williams being their Grannie who taught them to sing.

Reminds me slightly of that Carpenters song Calling Occupants of Interplanetary Craft. (Which I also didn’t know is a cover)

Similar for The Darkness supporting Ed Sheeran in Ipswich.

Can I add “Gold” by Prince? Ticks pretty much every box in the perfect song requirement.
Just needs a gospel choir on the outro.

The only reason I learnt to play bass guitar (and from there, guitar) was due to the bass solo on the 1987 video “Level 42 - Live At Wembley”.

Nearly 40 years later and some very expensive bass guitars, I STILL can’t play it.

Nu Metal is objectively better than most Indie Rock (Including Radiohead) and I'm tired of prentending its not

In the days when you made tapes for your mates, a mate of mine did me some Stone Roses. For a while (because I didn't actually read the title he'd written on the inlay card) I thought Ian Brown was singing "I wanna be a door" (as in a gateway to something else).

Trust the process. Trust Phil.
