Retained list thread had me looking at our squad 20:13 - May 31 with 11618 views_clive_baker_

Safe to assume all of the following are off, in one form or another? Ball, Camara, Jackson, Donacien, Williams, Travis, Hutchinson, Sarmiento, Aluko, Moore, Ndaba, El-Mizouni, Hayes.

That’s 13. Presumably Ladapo too if we can find a home for him, although that won’t be cheap and I would expect we’ll have to contribute most of his wages / bridge any gap. Ahadme & Baggott presumably out on loans or moved on too.

Quite a lot innit, and that’s before question marks around a few others, namely in the keeper department. Excluding keepers that leaves 16 by my reckoning, including Humphreys, Edmundson, Harness & Al-Hamadi who you might argue won’t all be in the squad.

We’ll bring in at least 6 or 7 won’t we?

Ladapo is 31 & has 1 year left on his contract. I reckon he's on about 14k a week. He was a late developer who proved himself to be a good League 1 striker over the past few years. He could end up back at Rotherham or at the likes of Birmingham. We're unlikely to get a fee for him, but a decent League 1 club might want him (though not Charlton) or else we'll have to loan him out, although we might avoid a pay off if someone will give him a 2 or 3 year deal.

Love how we all think we know what Ladapo earns… tbh we haven’t got a clue, have we!

I didn’t inflate anything, I just looked at the number we’d signed the last 2 years. You made a fair point about the discussion being around the Summer window but it doesn’t change the fact that we’ve still brought in a lot of players the past 2 Summers, with this season representing a bigger jump and shift in financial muscle

Your 7-8 comment came after the above exchange, which was in response to you saying 8-10 was too many, itself an odd response when your own prediction includes an 8. It’s almost like you’ve realised we will indeed sign quite a few players and shifting the goalposts, rather than just admitting that posters prediction wasn’t that wild after all)

God. You’re another Herbivore, someone hell bent on point scoring and winning at every opportunity. Maybe I said it on another thread but I’ve consistently said 7 or 8 feels about right; 8 - 10 feels too many.

I never said his prediction would be “wild”, I just disagreed and felt it’d be lower and more consistent with what KM has done previously.

With the new KM contract and the figures involved. I've moved on from thinking we might see a handful of new starters to potentially 8/9 new starters with members of our 2023/24 team being the finishes.

Which 20 would you say are certain to remain?

It would take all 16 players who were registered and still in contract to remain, plus Slicker, Al, Hamadi and Baggott to be registered and one of the out of contract players to stay (Jackson?) to get to 20

That’s how I have it. Agree with others on here Jackson will stay and I see no reason for Slicker, Al Hamadi or Baggott not to be registered. Some of those may have loan spells.

How big our squad will be with under-21s I I’m not sure.

8/9 new starters?
That is a worry to me. That would only leave Davis, Burns and Morsy as potential starters?

There's arguments for most players. But imo some like chappers and broadhead. Their goals of course can't be forgotten but are both premiership starters? And regular?
Morsy/luongo.. hero's both of them.. but are there many regular cms in the prem over 33?- (- that itself Is a question)
Hirst... prem quality starter or handy option?

I'm really caught with our squad tbh. It's achieved so much.. but when think of the sort of players we are going to be playing and how much of a leap champ to prem is and what the target of the club may be.. I'm really unsure about the starting players.

But of McKenna’s 2 Summer windows, in one we signed 8-10 players and the other was one less, so how is either prediction more consistent than what has happened previously?

Maybe rather than accusing others of point scoring and being hell bent at ‘winning’ you should look at your own posts? (Although I can see your rather pi**y response to my original post in this thread has now been edited)

14k according to players salaries site and maybe more triggered by this promotion.

What are the U21 rules, i havent got a clue. Presumably they are excluded from the 25? i have no idea

Am not sure we have no under 21 premier ready players at the moment Baggott Slicker Al Hamadi and Humphries just out of time so maybe need to be short term loan players come September to get regular games.

Burgess, Axel, Luongo, Morsy, Burns and Broadhead are our most experienced players though. They have played against some of the very best at International level. Burgess recently played against England at Wembley and was excellent. Think Axel and Walton are the only ones in our current squad who have Premier League experience. Think we need these players playing. (Walton?)

I honestly can't see Walton playing. He's not quick enough with his feet and his shot to save ratio in league 1 alone wasn't great.

Axel I'm hoping extends his stay. He defo is one if we can keep fit will probably end up a starting cb.

I do take your point on experience which counts for a lot which is why I think we might see one of morsy or luongo playing defo not both.

Burns will be a part and I reckon a big part but I think KM will also like the ability to utilise an inverted winger ala hutchinson over your typical right sided winger. But it'll be good to have options.

I think they'll be some surprises. Not entirely sure what yet.

I think last summer we only made 3 permanent signings didn't we? With the rest being loans, I certainly remember expecting us to be bringing in more players than we did last summer, and was somewhat nervous about the step up with so many of our team from League One starting, but we all know how that turned out.

I think we will obviously make several signings, hopefully a few big ones, but I wouldn't be surprised if McKenna is happy with maybe 3 high quality upgrades in the starting 11, and then 2 or 3 squad players to improve our depth. I think a huge part of our strong start last year was the continuity of selection and the fact that we were absolutely on it, with every player knowing their role, before other teams had got up to speed, and this will be essential again. I wouldn't be surprised if McKenna is happy with being one or two short of the squad limit as well to start the year, the schedule is not as intense, plus this would also make it easier to add 2 or 3 in January when we can assess where we are and what we need.

We signed Slicker, Hirst, Taylor and Tuanzebe permanently (Tuanzebe was technically outside of the window but a week after it closed so in effect a Summer signing). Additionally Hutchinson, Scarlett and Williams on loan

Some of this seasons signings will be squad players for sure, and no doubt we’ll use up the loan capacity - but I’ll happily stick my neck out and predict at least 8 incoming in total

FLW (yeah I know) is reporting that Town didn't take up the option of another year for Idris El Mizouni
https://footballleagueworld.co.uk/jack-payne-features-realistic-free-agents-leyt

Might be we would have had to offer him an increased Prem wage, and that might have put off L1 clubs from paying a fee so just released him instead. One of those where if we were still a champ club we would take the option and look to sell for 200k.

Of course, give the source there's a good chance they pulled this news out of thin air.

“We signed 8 - 10 players” - do you realise how ridiculous that sounds? 😂😂😂

The more you drag this pathetic debate out, (which you’ve made an argument), the more you prove my point. Not sure why you’re so upset I called you out for having incorrect facts, no-one is really that bothered. Thus will be the last chat we have. You’re as exhausting as Herbs. Welcome to my Div list.

No idea why you're name dropping me here to be honest, other than that you're a strangely obsessive individual who wears their lack of a clue as a badge of honour.

I am confused about this whole Schrodinger's 8 signings malarkey. If we sign 8 players you are saying that is simultaneously about right and feels too many. Both can't be true. I think we will end up at around 8 or 9 most likely (bearing in mind we might sign a prospect or two for a couple of million and loan them out) and that is pretty consistent with the level of turnover we've had the last two summers.
