I've quite liked watching his programmes over the years.

It's a real shame, I've been a fan for a while now. I saw him speak at the Hays festival a few weeks ago and enjoyed his content. Always came across as a nice guy willing to try lots of things in the pursuit of a better life.

Does seem random that he has just disappeared like that. Guess it always does in these types of circumstances

It's been two and a half days now so you have to wonder why a body has not been found. With the sophistication of search and rescue teams these days you could have at least expected something by now. That being said, there was a case local to me and on an island I sometimes work on where it took a week (I don't work in search and rescue, just on bothy maintenance and know the lads who look after the one she was trying to reach: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cv2241ylx8xo ) Once someone in dead I guess the chances of a helicopter or drone picking up a thermal image fall away pretty quickly.

It's a sad thought that he may have come a cropper but your point about thermal imaging could well be true.

I remain hopeful but sadly the longer it goes on the chances of a happy outcome gets smaller and smaller

Yes, myself and Lady Dollers are fans of him and his missus too. We have 3 of her fasting diet cook books and cook the majority of our meals from them (not that we're fasting, we just love the meals!) and we regularly listen to his Just One Thing podcast on the BBC. Really sad, she must be at her wits end.

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

Yep, doesn't look good. I can't understand why you'd go for a walk and not take your phone with you.

All too easy to forget when you have had a relaxing morning on the beach, and as I know from my own experience having a phone on you is no good if you are unconscious.

Should always walk with a companion if walking somewhere potentially risky.

Sad news to hear. I often go without my phone, its nice to get a break so I can understand why you wouldn't. It's bonkers how addicted to them we've become. We travelled all around the world without one back in the late 90s. I miss those days as you could really shut yourself off from the world

Thousands, if not millions of us, do not on plenty of occasions. Would rather have a decent ramble over new terrain and left to my own devices than spend hours arguing about how, why and where with someone I would otherwise get on with but has different capabilities. And everywhere is potentially risky in an increasingly warlike World.

A lot of the best safety precautions are just good preparation and having a good map and compass (and know how to use them, don't rely on GPS or anything powered by a battery that can run out even though they can be useful.)

Somewhere you know well you might, but on holiday in a foreign land you don't know, and with miles of mountainous terrain rather than roads/towns I wouldn't attempt (in fact Lady Dollers wouldn't let me!) without my phone.

I’m reading one of his gut books at the moment and he connects very well with the reader. The second half of the book is really going to hit different now.

I don't use a smartphone (just a clamshell thingy) and I can pretty much guarantee that I'm happier because of it.

Back then there wasn't the choice as they just didn't exist. Nowadays I agree, I wouldn't go too far without one.

The alternative is to wear something like an Apple Watch. You can disable to phone app if you don’t want to be disturbed but the GPS will continue to work so if you get into trouble you will be located quickly. Plus, if you fall and are conscious you can press the SOS button which will call emergency services.

Hey now, hey now, don't dream it's over

Having gone off on one at Blueas for the slightest suggestion of never walking solo I now have to admit to often carrying a Personal Locator Beacon (communicates with the Maritime and Coastguard Agency via satellite in extreme emergency) when kayaking or visiting remote bothies (more for the possibility of arriving at one and finding someone in greater physical distress than my rudimentary first aid skills can cope with then in expecting to be in difficulty myself.) I'm not going to castigate Michael Mosley for forgetting his phone, people have been wandering around this planet for a million years or more without one.

I would always take my phone when out hiking but if you're hit by heat stroke and / or had a serious fall it's not really going to make any difference anyway.

Very sad news this morning, can't imagine what his wife and family must be going through right now.
