Wegovy Injections on 11:40 - Jun 11 by GlasgowBlue | Please feel free to tell me to fcuk off as I am completely unaware of your circumstances, an there may be vaid reasons why you are on the injections, but 6KG is just short of a Stone. Most people could eat sensibly and run a few Kilometres a week and lose 2 to 3lbs a week. As I said, I don't know your personal circumstances but I can't help but feel that getting an injection is going to encourage people to live a less healthy lifestyle. |
3lbs is about 10,500 calories. I burned 3,400 when I ran a marathon, 3 lbs would require that plus the equivalent of 3 days of recommended calories to come out of your diet.

They don't recommend losing more than 2lbs a week maximum else your body doesn't have a chance to adjust and figure out the new normal. Also you have the potential of stretchy skin. People can lose a lot of weight very quickly on diets initially, partly due to it being water loss rather than actual body composition. If a man needs on average 2.5k calories per day and he consume 500 calories each day then he will lose a lb a week. Its not that hard to do, but doing it day in, day out for weeks, months at a time. Thats where I can get hard.

There is a brilliant podcast called Docs Who Lift, they do discuss various issues regarding GLP-1, and more importantly they reference studies. https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/glp-1-weight-loss-maintenance-from-exercis There’s also James Smith, who is a bit brash, and he was knocking semaglutide etc. He actually tried it, because he does things like this, and he was impressed with the results. But he also cautioned that it should be along with education. Also there is Layne Norton, who has various PhDs who has weighed in on the subject https://biolayne.com/reps/issue-24/weight-loss-maintenance-after-glp-1-therapy/ I also highly recommend Ben Carpenter, who has released a book recently which is well written, sympathetic, and well referenced. It’s called Everything Fat Loss. For high protein recipes there is Scott Baptie, who has an app, books, a website, and various social media https://www.foodforfitness.co.uk/ Some excellent high protein tasty recipes there. And finally our very own MarkTWTD went through a rather astonishing transformation. He’s really smashed his targets and has done something incredible. I expect to see more great things from him in the not too distant future too.

Wegovy Injections on 17:36 - Jun 10 by JackNorthStand | Christ. Eat less, move more and save yourself £200 Feel I should add to this as things can be taken the wrong way on here. Each to their own and if people have the money then go for it. The point I am making is I can’t believe a company can charge as much as £200 per month for something that can essentially be achieved for free. [Post edited 10 Jun 2024 17:39]

I had no idea what Wegovy was before reading this thread, so googled it - very educational. To add to other comments generally re "move more" - some people just can't do that much - arthritis or other joint problems prevent them from jogging & other exercises; they can't access a swimming pool or gym because of transport problems; don't have the space or spare cash for home gymn equipment etc.

8 weeks and moving onto 2.4?! After 8 weeks you should be moving onto 1 at most. How did you get a prescription for that?

Into my 5th week and have so far lost 24 3/4lbs....... (11kg) Probably too much too quickly but have really focused on what I am eating by logging it all on MFP. I also haven't had any alcohol in 4 1/2 weeks, which is an achievement in itself. Only side effect I've had from the Wegovy is chronic tiredness an hour or so after I take it so I now take it in the evening.

Thank you! I'm pleased that comes across on my GNR website. Newcy did post on here about our very random encounter over dinner with mutual friends back in March last year. TWTD is everywhere by NewcyBlue 18 Mar 2023 19:12The first weekend of March I went down to the British Motor Museum for a Jaguar Breakfast Club gathering (yes, I know it sounds cool!).
The evening before I met up with a Captain that I had sailed with for dinner. He was also going to the JBC. I met him at a restaurant just off the M1 on the way down to my overnight stop.
He introduced me to Mark, and didn’t really give much of a background. Eventually it turned out that they are on the same Jaguar forum.
I got chatting with Mark and it was dropped in to conversation that I was formerly a resident of Suffolk. After a little while he asked if I was a Town fan, and then if I used TWTD.
It was MarkTWTD. A very random dinner with a colleague, and I got to ask MarkTWTD what his favourite cheese is. Disappointingly he’s not much of a cheese fan. He’s not into football either.
He’s a thoroughly nice chap, although didn’t let on to any TWTD technical secrets. He'll probably kill me for sharing this link... but I think it makes for a cracking story. https://gnr2024.co.uk/who-is-coach-ken/

Amazing stuff from Ken to keep you motivated and up-to-date with ideas and suggestions. All this done from the middle of the ocean! It's funny how you randomly meet people and they turn out to have a major impact on your life. So good to see somebody make health their priority and see real change. Your life will be so much better for it.

That’s amazing To answer a few who commented - I was always super gym fit - but do go through periods of either a six pack weighing about 17 stone or being 22 stone and heavily obese lol. I’m 6ft3 and even whilst boxing and being in the gym 6 days a week I was still a minimum of 17 stone Covid and working from home really hit me hard and ultimately my exercise routine and diet completely stopped to the point I’m now 22 stone and in a awful state I’m travelling 4 hours a day so hitting the gym isn’t easy - but the plan is to get a little boost with this, exercise via walking where possible and more importantly - eat super healthy - and due to the injections not have the inclination to gorge on food I know I’m opening my self to criticism but it’s my own fault - and I know if I don’t sort it at 43 years old I’m facing a much shorter life than I should I’ll keep it updated on here with my journey. Fingers crossed

Well done on making the decision to do something about your health and wanting a better future. Lots of people fall behind where they want to be with their health, and it's quite easy to glide along saying that you will do better but never find the time or the motivation to do so. My struggles started post-COVID as well, I got out of the habit of exercising (was swimming 3/4 times a week) and then had a couple of operations in quick succession which meant swimming was on the backburner. Swimming is the only non-competitive exercise I have ever stuck to, not keen on running despite doing a couple of marathons over the years, so to lose that option was hard. I ended up being on a path for all sorts of nasty things (potential diabetes, rising blood pressure), all things that losing a few pounds would ultimately prevent from happening. That is why I took action to do all I could to give myself and my daughter a brighter future. It's not easy, still battle with food (why does cr@p food taste so nice!), but the injections are helping me with the appetite. Don't listen to the naysayers, they do not understand and often think just eating a bit less or moving a bit more will sort it. Whilst yes those things will ultimately help often this is a mental thing to overcome as well. Everybody's body is different, and the metabolism rate varies. It's akin to somebody saying "Just sort yourself out" or "A good slap around the head should do it" or "Cheer up" to those with mental health problems. Not particularly useful or supportive. Well done on posting this, they do say sharing it and being open about it can help drive your motivation. The more people know about what you are trying to achieve, the more support you can get. If you read MarkTWTD's story on his GNR page, very inspirational. Keep us all updated as you say, will be great to hear about the progress and how the journey is going. That will hold you to account to some degree. Best wishes and good luck

Walking is all you really need, or just being more mobile during the day. The vast number of calories we burn isn’t through exercise, so just upping your overall activity throughout the day can have the biggest effect (some people can’t walk much either, so obviously that’s different). Obviously exercise has other benefits such as cardiovascular health and muscle tone, so also important.

Agree. I got an insight into just how difficult it can be though for those with joint etc. problems when I had my first ever knee problem a couple of months ago. for 6 weeks was struggling to just hobble round the house, never mind go on my usual 45-60 minute daily mutt walks. X-ray showed up second problem as well which had been starting to be bothersome - CPPD - quite common in over-65s apparently.

There’s a Stephen Bartlett podcast on something like this. Will try to find the link. On the surface, I get the idea, lots of ‘opinion’ on it that seems to make the whole aspect of it confusing whether it’s a good thing or not so good. That said, to me success is dependent on the longevity, if you just end up back where you started then seems a bit pointless, after all you can’t stay on it indefinitely. That said if it helps kickstart a healthier long term lifestyle it could have a huge benefit. Not quite the same, Ozempic. But an interesting listen https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/the-diary-of-a-ceo-with-steven-bartlett/id [Post edited 14 Jun 2024 7:44]
