Seat moves from west stand just notified 16:52 - Jun 10 with 19204 viewsmarkt

Hi, Just been told about 600 of us have to move to accommodate the new press box running along west stand upstairs. We have to get in a queue tomorrow morning to move but options are severely restricted or restricted in west , or the crap ones in Sir Alf. Very poorly organised , and no time to sort,. How did Cobbold moves get on, I understand they were told and moved last week

This is a non-argument, no one would tolerate this if you were dealing with other organisations you subscribe to.

The club is a business that has just had a massive increase in it's income. It can afford a few temps to manage this transition (if needed), the same way I have to staff up for increased demand in my role.

Its probably not even a problem you can throw temp staff at. The core of the ticket system is probably only available on a few PCs inside the club. They just aren't geared up for phone sales like they once were. Ticket sales are all online there will be a modern cloud based system working with the clubs very old database somewhere. Its a one time operation and lets be honest they can sell those seats many times over at the minute

Some of us would have wanted to chat to those around us to see if we wanted to move together, not time, ridiculous only giving us an evening warning

Appreciate the club could have done much much better with the notice, but “a chat to those around us to see if we wanted to move together”, come on mate, the priority is always going to be families being seated together, not a block of you because you’ve sat together for years.

Look on the bright side.

1. I’ve no doubt you and everyone else moved now will get first options on the new Cobbold, where there will be heated toilet seats

2. You’ll get the opportunity to make some new friends.

Thé club dont care about you and simply want your cash.. Your cash is now second fiddle to to the Prem cash (ie media loot) - so that takes priority.

Perhaps you didn’t consider the harsh reality of promotion before rushing in to pay for a seat the club (and perhaps you) knew would no longer be available if promotion was achieved?

Silver cloud - it’ll be far more tolerable for anyone moving knowing there’s absolutely no way they could be sat next to you though.

I don’t think being lumbered with a seat next to Captain happy Elephant bloke is a possibility unless you buy one at Carrow Road or Ashton Gate.

Phew.

Its the summer many staff will be on holiday and none of the other staff will know how to use the ticketing system. The ticketing system is probably just dedicated desktop PCs so it can probably only be used by a handful of staff at any one time, so no scope to add extra staff in to help out. Ticket sales have been online for some time its just about all self service. The other staff that are in will be focussed on the building work, transfers and other prep work for next season. I expect that the club will do something for the inconvenienced fans when the new cobbold is announced.

No, i get that there maybe fewer people around but this comes down to a lack of appropriate planning by the club. Funny how they could get builders in on such short notice but not have a few extra people ready to mitigate a situation by this.

If 600 people are impacted, you could handle one every 15 mins. Which works out at an extra 4 people for one week. Not exactly too taxing when you break it down.

Basically, if the club had wanted to do something and deal with this before sending a fairly dismissive email they could have done.

This has no impact on me, I just feel for people who have been sitting in their seat and with their friends

I think it s probably well over 1000 moves in total with the Cobbold stand. With the best will in the world it would be impossible to do this in back to back calls. It would take weeks and weeks the time just isn't there. You really cant expect the ticket office staff to spend all of their day calling people, that would be miserable, just about everyone they call will be angry

Not sure how often you go to matches, but some people have sat together for years and have been through thick and thin together. It's all part of the experience, especially when you sign up for another season of League One but you do it anyway.

Then you get told you've lost your seat and best of luck going online and finding a seat where you can continue to enjoy it with your friends that you've made over the 20+years you've sat together. You renewed your season ticket based on the seat you have and also the atmosphere around you. You've been missold your ticket.

If I was impacted I would be fuming. Absolutely fuming, not that I have to move, but more its been done in such an impersonal and unprofessional way.

The reality is we are not a family-run club now, it's all about business, which has its pros and cons. This has been one of the cons. In the age of the internet and social media, it doesn't take much to lose the good will.

Well, you've got angry people now, so not doing anything hasn't resolved the problem, it's exasperated it.

I appreciate its additional work but not that much in the scheme of things. Making a 1000 calls spread over a team doesn't take long. A quick look at LinkedIn and you will see that quite a few people could easily step into the breach (marketing team etc). We are not short of people just short of effort.

Bearing in mind how wealthy our club now allegedly is, the effort isn't insurmountable even if it took a few weeks. A personal email could have been a good start even if a phone call was beyond the club. Given the larger numbers you would have thought they might have spotted the potential for unrest.

Is there any difference now to the whole of North Stand being booted out to find what they could in 2001? As one of them I don’t see a lot of difference. So the whole ‘family run club’ thing didn’t apply then any more than it does now. It never did. For plebs like me the club run by local businessmen who own half of Suffolk is no different to me than a load of Americans in Arizona. All aliens to me.

Missold a ticket? Surely you buy a ticket for a seat. And that’s it. You don’t buy seat + the same dudes next to you. So you have to find another seat and maybe make a new friendship or two. That’s hardly miss selling.

Underpinning all this is entitlement. People who believe they are more important than others and should be treated accordingly. Personally, I see no difference in practical terms between them or the lowlifes in the stalls.

As for goodwill, like trust you are right. It doesn’t take much to lose it and when alls said and done people have the right to walk away, just as they did in their droves (without this level of furore) when good king Evans ran the show into the ground.

Could the club have managed the Comms better? Probably, but the basic problem of too many people for too few seats would still have been there.

Although with the North stand move, people were kept broadly together in the upper tier of Churchmans and the intent was to replicate as closely as possible for the return to the new North in 2002-03.

Not sure if the latter happened as I managed to move to a better seat as part of the process.

Just had the painstaking task of calling, not the guys fault at the Ticket Office by any stretch and I feel for them, I tried to be as polite as possible and understanding, but the tickets I've got are terrible, just hope when they rebuild the Cobbold, all of us that have had to move get first dibs.

Ta for that. I’d forgotten that. You are right. I went to have a look and opted out of it because I prefer to be closer hence winding up with the West stand middle tier tartan rug misery brigade (big mistake). Mind you, it was easier back then in the sense that Churchmans upper was new and nobody was displaced

A little if I recall. I lost my original seat due to the rebuild of the old North but there was an effort made to keep us together (as Steve_M said in his post).

As for missold, yes I do think this could be argued. People bought a seat based on where it was located and for a particular view/atmosphere. It's not like you can sit where you want, you don't buy a ticket to get into PR and then it's a free-for-all all. It's a ticket for one particular seat. Here people have bought a ST in good faith only to be told what they were sold isn't actually what they are getting. That's missold to me unless the T&Cs are very clear that you could end up not getting the seat you paid for.

Now if the club were sensible then they would have been offering these people some incentive for the move at the time the decision was made, as other posters have said maybe having first dibs when the stands get redeveloped. Or something to soften the blow. Now anything they do will feel like an afterthought. It's about proactive thinking and not just sending a fairly bland blanket email basically saying tough!

Yep, it's a bit of a disgrace, they knew the changes that needed to happen from meeting in January, I know they didn't know then that we would be going up, but they could've warned people beforehand that this might happen and even a softer message, not selling another 1k tickets on top, to then tell long standing ST holders, tough luck you have no choice.

Left a bad taste in my mouth, and surprised the local media have been so quiet about it, too scared to upset anyone at the club I suppose.

It seems like we’re being penalised for being season ticket holders in the League One years. Couldn’t they make all the seats available that were only sold as ST for first time last year available and make the championship fanboys move to restricted view. (I’m sure there’s a million reasons why not but I’m so frustrated…)

I got screwed on loyalty last year too. Got away tickets in League One with ST but no membership (as no need) but then didn’t get points in Championship so couldn’t get to away games I wanted to despite them buying a membership card!

They’ve made sure to penalise the loyal season ticket holders… again….

The club I think have done the best of a bad situation.
I'm involved in the move now too.
I understand the reasons why and support the club going forwards.
I got my season ticket last year and im greatful that I can get to see my team back in the prem again. I had previously had a season ticket first two seasons in league 1.

I don't understand how you can think the club should contact you prior to knowing what requirements they need to facilitate.
If you are to blame anyone, blame Marcus Evans and his lack of up keep around the ground.

I think everyone deep down regardless of their personal situation accepts the club had no choice but to move fans.

The club also had the choice to communicate well, they haven't. Ashton called for respect of club staff, I've heard stories from friends and family that haven't been afforded that same respect by club staff, the inference of like it or lump from ticket office staff seems all too common sadly.

The club had no choice but to maximise sales on promotion to generate revenue. They could never have known they would be in this situation only 12 months later.

Are you a club bot being paid to continuously defend them against every single post where someone is expressing even the mildest frustration about “HOW”‘it’s being done rather that “WHAT” is being done as this is pretty universally understood and accepted

It’s ok to be both loyal to the club and also criticize it for mistakes.

I don't blame the ticket staff one bit, I was very sympathetic to them on the phone as they have been given this grenade by the hierarchy, not their fault and hope most people understand they are only doing what they can under the circumstances.

In no way has the club done their best here. It feels like "Well if they don't like it we've got a waiting list full so sod em". A lot of this could have been mitigated if they had thought more carefully how they communicated such news

This is a very fair and good summary. Deep down we are all chuffed about where we are as a club, we are all happy. Just a misstep by the club in what has so far been fantastic ownership.

I feel we have a right to call them out on this and for them to do better in the future when hopefully other parts of the ground are redeveloped.
