I was more excited about the Lionesses than I am the men's team. 02:08 - Jun 14 with 2939 views | Mercian | I know you cannot compare women to men but bearing that in mind they are better the same way that Serena Williams was better than Tim Henman. The have an excellent goalie, Williamson and Bright are both excellent centre-halves , Stanway and Walsh are both very solid in the middle of the park and Hemp, James, Toone and Russo are excellent attackers, especially the the Laurens. Is there something wrong with me? [Post edited 14 Jun 2024 2:10]

I was more excited about the Lionesses than I am the men's team. on 05:04 - Jun 14 with 2854 views | MK1 | The men have a good array of goalkeepers, good defenders, a world class holding midfielder, four world class attacking midfielders and one of the best strikers in the world. They just need to play them in the correct positions with the correct tactics and there is no reason why England can't win Euro 24. Some of the other nations also have an array of talent. France, Italy, Germany, Spain and Portugal have very solid squads, especially France. Our front 5 can hurt any side in world football. Give them the belief, get them playing the right way and who knows. I still believed in Ipswich in the dark days of league one and I still believe in England. Not saying we will, but we could.

I was more excited about the Lionesses than I am the men's team. on 08:18 - Jun 14 with 2630 views | Europablue | What do you mean about Tim Henman? Serena Williams was better in her category, but Henman would have thrashed her if he ever player her. She lot to the 200th ranked male (about that anyway) in an exhibition match. I know it has become a cliche to say "I don't watch/like men's football anymore", but the viewing figures tell another story. Women's football has grown significantly. One huge problem I have with Women's football is that to me it a new sport with no emotional investment from my side and would double my time and energy investment. One of the biggest turn off is how people exaggerate how good it is and push it on you everywhere. Women's football should be allowed to organically grow and I am sure more people will grow to appreciate it. England women winning the World Cup was nice, but it doesn't count and we are still waiting since 1966 for our first win. There is nothing wrong with you enjoying the women's game. It doesn't sound like you are telling people what they should like. No-one should be trying to push women's football down and we shouldn't be pushing the men's team down either. I'm reenergized and I'm excited to support England for the first time in years. Bellingham is a generational talent, he could be our best player in my lifetime. I even feel like Gareth Southgate has grown and hopefully won't make the same mistakes to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. Maybe ask me after the tournament, but right now I'm very optimistic and really looking forward to the tournament.

I think that was exactly their point re Serena being more exciting to watch because she's better in her category. The Lionesses have done amazing things over the last few years, albeit not a world cup win like you've stated though! I get where the OP is coming from. Although I'm not quite there myself with it, I can understand why someone might be more excited about the Lionesses going into a tournament. They've been a fantastic tournament side and it doesn't feel like they've got the weight of almost 60 years of hurt on their shoulders [Post edited 14 Jun 2024 8:46]

Did the women win the Euros then? I was on the fence about checking that before I posted. Thanks for the correction. Serena was worse than Man City. I really don't see her as exciting to watch. She had a rather ugly character and seemed very entitled. The way she behaved against Naomi Osaka in the final at the US open was an absolute disgrace. Tennis is a really good example of women's sport that I would watch. I love Wimbledon and will watch the women's games. I also grew up supporting the women at the Olympics. I really think you have to grow up with it as a norm otherwise there is just too much stuff out there. There is no room in my life or heart for the women's team. Women's club football looks even more fixed than the men's. The organic women's teams have been totally overshadowed by the Women's teams at established Men's clubs. Team get chosen for the leagues and there are not enough teams going up and down. I don't think women's football has much of a chance with me. I have nothing against it exactly, I just hate it when it feels like something feels like it being force fed to you. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Yep, the Euros in 2022 It's taken me a while to get on board with women's football but my wife enjoys it and she's put up with years of me talking about ITFC non-stop so it's only fair Sorry, but I really hate the '"women's football is forced on us" narrative. No one is forcing anyone to watch it. It's just that there is more of it on TV now which has been absolutely fantastic for representation and getting girls into the sport

I'm not a fan of the snogging during the cup presentations to be honest. You don't get that in the men's game.

I'm not complaining about women's football being on TV. The only time I watch live TV is during the Euros, World Cup, or maybe the Olympics. I'm talking more about the media. There absolutely has been a push of women's football in quite an artificial way. The big culprit is the BBC sport website. They don't give you the option to filter what you want to see, so the football page is flooded with women's football articles. A simple fix would to be just to let me filter out women's football and maybe the Premier League. I think women's football has grown and moved on to something that quite a few people are genuinely interested, but a few years ago there was an agenda to push women's football.
I was more excited about the Lionesses than I am the men's team. on 09:09 - Jun 14 with 2452 views | ElephantintheRoom | Bit sad…. Nothing against women’s football but top level international women’s teams are at the level of Australia’s U-15 schoolboy team as evidenced by embarrassing matches. The current England team has more good players than at any time in the last half century…. Player of the year in England, Spain ad Germany. It may well be that they are only good enough to get to the QF at best….because some of the other teams are even better…. Or at least have some capable defenders. Personally i am quite looking forward to the tournament and might even watch the jocks v Germany

Again, no one is forcing you to click on the articles or read about it. Just scroll past. There's loads of sports that I couldn't care less about that get a lot of coverage, like MMA for example. But you never hear anyone say it's being forced on us. Seems to only happen with the women's game
I was more excited about the Lionesses than I am the men's team. on 09:18 - Jun 14 with 2400 views | Swansea_Blue | Nothing wrong at all. It’s only because male football was the only side of the game the media focused on for so long that there’s still a chauvinistic hangover. You do you.

I was more excited about the Lionesses than I am the men's team. on 11:09 - Jun 14 with 2219 views | Vaughan8 | I have no interest in the England qualifiers/friendlies/nations league and haven't watched one for ages. I have to say this Tournament I'm not overly excited for, but I think that's just because its been a bit watered down recently. The fact only 8 teams drop out of the group stages makes even the group games a bit less important. However once it starts, and once the knockout starts I'll be into it I'm sure! I know people disagree and we've had this discussion before, but I think the men's and women's games are almost 2 different sports.
I was more excited about the Lionesses than I am the men's team. on 11:30 - Jun 14 with 2171 views | Bluefields | Earps has been in very patchy form recently. Greenwood is better than both Bright and Williamson who have been very poor since coming back from injury. Walsh is outstanding but Stanway has been below par for some time.Hemp is quality but the others are nowhere near as good in the womens game as the mens forwards.

I find the need to compare it to the men's game really weird If I'm watching the women's 100m final at the Olympics, I don't go on a message board and say "that was rubbish, Usain Bolt would absolutely smoke all of them"

So are these people rather watching because they might be more successful? They think the Women have more chance, so prefer watching that? I would call that a glory supporter, rather than a passionate supporter of their country.
