Trump challenges Biden to a cognitive test on 11:39 - Jun 16 with 7280 views | DanTheMan | Even without getting into whether either of the two are fine cognitively, I love quotes like this. "He was the White House doctor, and he said I was the healthiest president, he feels, in history. So I liked him very much." He's 78 and very obviously overweight. Compare him to Bush, Obama, Carter, and Ford when they became president and it's not even going to be close. And yet people lap this up and believe it, it's like a cult. I don't understand how people can be this invested in a politician...

Bizarre isn't it. It's not like he's remotely charismatic. I think a lot must just like that he says out loud, in public, what they are thinking, or express privately. All the horrible stuff, I mean.

I know there are now these articles highlighting the odd gaffe from Trump, but there is no evidence to me of his being a person who is physically or mentally impaired (apart from his policies). The same can't be said of Biden who is clearly both mentally and physically impaired. [Post edited 16 Jun 2024 12:02]

They need to change the constitution and bring back Obama. The world needs him.

Ask the people of Libya if they need him. Obama is a fine orator, but he was a lousy President. Being preferable to Bush or Trump doesn’t make you a good president.

That's an absolutely volcanic take. Virtually everything that comes out of his mouth is deranged or a gaff. His speeches are rambling, incoherent and internally inconsistent. SB [Post edited 16 Jun 2024 12:36]

Trump's recent stuff on religion "such a great thing" and batteries, boats and sharks is clearly the mark of the self proclaimed stable genius he is. Interesting that in February this year US historians ranked Biden as 14th best President, and Trump last.

It is astonishing that you don't see evidence that Trump is mentally impaired. In the (almost) eight years since he was elected to the presidency, I doubt that there has been a full seven day period when he hasn't given more such evidence. Do you remember him suggesting that we could try injecting covid patients with lavatory cleaner? Or telling the world that stealth bombers are literally invisible?

No no, he was joking about disinfectant remember: https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/donald-trump/trump-says-he-was-being-sarcastic- Because that was definitely the appropriate time to be breaking out his hilarious comedy routine, and this isn't at all a further sign of an infallibility complex or mental impairment.
Trump challenges Biden to a cognitive test on 14:26 - Jun 16 with 6521 views | DJR | I think that you are all missing the points that I was trying to make. Firstly, that there appear to be an increasing number of articles which seem designed to effectively say Trump is no better cognitively than Biden. Secondly, it is perfectly possible to have all one's faculties and have views or say things that are extreme, baseless or outrageous. Of course, it may well be that Trump is a narcissist (I am no psychiatrist), but it seems to me that his primary purpose is to get himself elected, and to that extent he is prepared to say things, regardless of whether he believes them. Yes, he is also a demonstrable liar, but your point would make sense if he'd have stopped gibbering insane nonsense once he got himself to the White House, but if anything it ramped up.

The point though is that I am not aware that people questioned Trump's cognitive abilities when he was coming out with that sort of stuff as President, but they are now, and I don't think they would be were it not for the state of Biden.

I don't think that's the case at all. People were questioning them before he even became President long before Biden came along. SB

I will learn in future never to post on a Trump thread, but it seems to me that those who have responded to me have a different view of the meaning of cognitive ability, something I didn't anticipate. As it is, in my initial post I actually used the term mental impairment as an alternative but I did so because I also included the word physical. Cognitive ability declines with age, but it does so at different rates in different people. I think you would have to blind or blinkered not to notice such a decline in Biden (he also shows physical decline), but from my point of view I see no evidence of the same thing happening in Trump, or even if it is, to anything like the same extent as Biden, which is all I was trying to say. Of course, in the speech he mixed up Ronny Johnson with Ronny Jackson (something Biden's rapid response team jumped on and made the main headlines in the Guardian), but I am 14 years younger than Trump and occasionally do the same thing. That doesn't mean I lack cognitive ability. [Post edited 16 Jun 2024 16:16]

Carrying on with that nonsense would have been part of his strategy to get re-elected back in 2020, although it didn't work. [Post edited 16 Jun 2024 16:07]
