The leadership, the bravery to step up and take his penalty after missing his earlier one. Compared to past performances , this one wasn’t great at all, but he still delivered.

Arguably one of the greatest ever players - in an age where almost every single match of his senior career has been televised, his performances have been consistently world class. Compared to previous decades where players could have off-days and not have glare of a worldwide audience watching them.

One of the greatest ever players - well done Ronaldo.

He’d probably get a lot more of the respect you think he deserves if he wasn’t such a feeble egomaniac who can’t stay on his feet.

i hope you're joking ?

Ronaldo WAS a great player until about 6 years ago and since then he's just turned into a goal hanger and ruined every team hes been in because the entire team has to adapt to fit around him.

he doesn't run AT ALL ... and he's completely and utterly selfish ... last night he was grabbing every free kick and shooting even one from a yard inside the touchline and then he missed his penalty, cried about it for 5 minutes and then spent the entire second half of extra time sulking.

he then scored in the shootout but afterwards if you'd just tuned in to the BBC you'd have thought Ronaldo had won it single handedly .... all they could talk about was how 'brave' Ronaldo was ... no mention of the keeper who saved the 3 Slovenian penalties

Hes just turned into a circus act and it's sad to see but he's got such an ego that nobody can tell him to call it day and he's just embarrasing himself

It’s interesting to note that Portugal won the Euro 2016 final without Ronaldo on the pitch. As soon as he went off injured, relatively early in the game, they played much better as a team without him.

Arguably, they’d be a much better team without him in this tournament.

Was noticeable that the whole Portugal team (except Ronaldo) rushed to Diogo Costa last night after his incredible three penalty saves.

Ronaldo has a cult-esque following a bit like Trump and Elon Musk - people who think he can do no wrong - despite his many questionable and unlikeable qualities.

Yeah but we've got Wesinho Burns, who's a team player.
Ronald might have been a great player once but his legacy to me is :-
1. That hilarious statue of him
2. His wink. I said Wink!
3. His twitchy leg dummies which someone (Frank Skinner?) used to take the pee out of.

Indeed. It was intriguing that the pundits hyped up Portugal as possible favourites - then didn’t seem to notice that they were no better than England - except at taking penalties.

Very noticeable how supportive the people follow Portugal were in a truly dreadful game they might have lost.

Same goes for France who were mind numbingly dreadful again but you won’t hear or see the bizarre abuse that England seem to generate. 4 games, 2 own goals and a penalty and in the QFs

Portugal v France has 0-0 written all over it - and they are both pretty good in penalty shoot outs

I agree he showed great composure to score that second penalty, but not some of the rest.

His performances this tournament have shown he's over the hill and Portugal would be a better team without him, Joao Felix and Goncalo Ramos are both very good players but are barely getting a look in probably because of Ronaldo's ego and the headlines it would create if he was dropped or even subbed.

3/10 - trying too hard.

Can’t stand the guy. A serial cheater nearly all his career, & in every match it is all about him! Portugal would be better if they didn’t select him. Crying for missing a penalty, oh for heavens sake. Grown man acting like a spoilt child. Embarrassing. Wish someone would tackle him hard & illegally!
