Currently reading Blood Rites by Jim Butcher (book 6 in the Dresden Files books). It's a bit like the TV series Angel (Buffy spinoff). Good fun.

Also reading Cujo by Stephen King. Giant St Bernard gets rabies and the chaos that follows. Halfway through and it's been excellent and really ramps up the tension.

Quietly been working my way through CJ Box's Joe Pickett series. Love them!

Tried Dresden files. Found it painful and cringey to read.

Sandman slim by richard kadrey has some similar foundations but is much sharper and beeter written without the adolescent tone imo. Great fun.

Alchemy by SJ Parris. An enjoyable historical murder mystery set in Reformation era Prague.

I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.

Colditz by Ben Macintyre. It's a good couple of decades since I read Pat Reid's account and it's refreshing to get a more rounded and less heroic take on events.
As with all his books, it's a pacy narrative.

It's 106 miles to Portman Road, we've got a full tank of gas, half a round of Port Salut, it's dark... and we're wearing blue tinted sunglasses.

In lieu of the DDay anniversary last month, I’m about to re-read Holland’s Normandy 44. I’ve also got lined up The Collaborators by Ian Buruma.

Edit: been recommended the Frey and McGray series by Oscar de Muriel so will start the first one of those when it becomes available through the library app.

Excellent read as are all his of others. Have you read his latest book The Siege? If so, is it worth the price? Times are hard..

Currently on holiday. I have read Phil Tufnell,s autobiography; very amusing. The latest Richard Osman; not as good as the previous ones, and apparently the last of that series which is a wise move. Finally I read Jilly Cooper’s Tackle, really trashy and highly improbable.

Im reading the second book in the three body problem series. I found the first book confusing to read. But really enjoyed the netflix adaptation. So decided to read the second book and i find find it hard to remember the characters names, what the hell is going on and then it seems to go off on a tangent with no obvious reason why im now reading about some relationship breakdown.

Going to India in a couple of weeks, so many books to consider, I chose "The Anarchy, The relentless rise of the East India Company" by William Dalrymple.

Snap! Well I say snap, it is in the suitcase ready to go.

Plus a book called ‘The Second Mountain’ which is a self-help book about second careers that I bought years ago and haven’t go around to reading yet.

I have a copy but have not read it. The serious SF commenteriat have broadly reached the view that its not very good and is a bit of an Emporer's new clothers type media / popularity storm.

I'm reading The Road which I picked up cheaply a few weeks back. I knew it was going to be bleak but it is exceptionally so....

Next up, for when I'm away next week, is Helen Czerski's 'Blue Machine' which is about oceans and water.

the road is one of my favourite ever books but at times I had to speed read sections because it was awful to imagine what might be about to happen at any moment.

‘The Underworld at War’ how organised crime in Britain thrived during the war. Sounds like a great time to a gangster, basically had a free hand.
