My wife has just voted and the person giving the forms out is now telling people they can’t vote for him even if on the ballot as he is suspended?

Nobody said anything to me when I went there at 8am this morning to vote either, at the same polling station
I've just clarified with her, and she said when she was given the card she was told that the Labour candidate is suspended, and everyone in Q was told this (as was another Mum she spoke to at school gates). When the lady in Q behind her asked 'who does she vote for then' the lady with forms listed all the other candidates out for her [Post edited 4 Jul 2024 15:42]

I would ask to speak to the Acting Returning Officer by doing as suggested. He will also have a deputy.
This from the Electoral Commission website explains the role.
"At a UK Parliamentary election in England and Wales, the Returning Officer (RO) is a l"argely ceremonial position. Most duties of the RO are discharged by the (Acting) Returning Officer ((A)RO) who is normally a senior officer of the local authority."
No doubt those in the local authority responsible for the election will be very busy, so it is possible you may struggle to reach someone.
If that is the case, you could try going to the place where the count is held. You could also try contacting the candidate.
You should point out the polling station where this is taking place because maybe it is a one-off, but this could be grounds for the candidate appealing the result because he is on the ballot paper, although I imagine he would do so without Labour Party support. [Post edited 4 Jul 2024 15:53]

Anyone there in an official capacity would normally be outside the building. Anyone by the gate is probably a teller for one of the parties. If you report it the returning officer should have them removed. | |
