Are the people at polling station allowed to say candidate suspended? 15:08 - Jul 4 with 5139 views | itfcjoe | I voted earlier in CS&NI where Kevin Craig is suspended and nothing was said to me My wife has just voted and the person giving the forms out is now telling people they can’t vote for him even if on the ballot as he is suspended? That can’t be right surely?

Are the people at polling station allowed to say candidate suspended? on 16:09 - Jul 4 by ITFC_Forever | Absolutely it is - it is dissuading someone to vote for the candidate they might otherwise have voted for. There's no way the clerk at the polling station should be saying something like that. |
It's been reported | |

Are the people at polling station allowed to say candidate suspended? on 15:55 - Jul 4 by Raffles | The recommendation is to call Mid Suffolk on 0300 123 4000 (Option 7). The authorized statement from the polling station is: "Candidate Kevin Craig was validly nominated as an authorised candidate of the Labour party, so is included as that on the ballot paper." |
If it says this... https://whocanivotefor.co.uk/elections/parl.central-suffolk-and-north-ipswich.20 "This candidate has been deselected by their party, but their original party description will remain on the ballot paper." Is somebody then voting for him, as an independent, or are they voting for the Labour Party, as his 'original party description' - with no other Labour option on the paper?

Are the people at polling station allowed to say candidate suspended? on 15:27 - Jul 4 by itfcjoe | How do I do this? I’ve just mentioned it in party WhatsApp group and think they’ll raise it. But she spoke at school gates and someone else was told the same re him being suspended |
Report it to Mid Suffolk on 0300 123 4000 (Option 7). It's a dedicated number and there should be someone there fir just such questions. But make sure they understand that others have probably been given the same incorrect advice.

Are the people at polling station allowed to say candidate suspended? on 15:24 - Jul 4 by Blueschev | That is illegal and your wife should report it. The status of a candidates party membership is completely irrelevant as they are still on the ballot. |
I’d argue their party status is highly relevant, as it’s misleading and dishonest if people are still being led to believe he represents the Labour manifesto. Ideally there would be a statement on the ballot paper saying he’s been deselected and would stand as an independent if he wins. If not enough time to modify the paper, there should be an additional note clipped to the ballot paper or at the very least notices up. It’s immoral to have a misleading paper imo. 100% they shouldn’t be telling people to not vote for him though . Someone’s going to be in trouble.

Such things are taken very seriously as a threat to democratic process. The clerk could go to prison for it. And rightly so. [Post edited 4 Jul 2024 19:49]

They sometimes chance their luck and go just inside if there aren't any of the other parties tellers on site.

I am assuming he means the voting slip on which you place your 'X'.

There should be a witness then as there will be two. One checking he name and crossing your Mrs name off their list and another giving her the voting slip.

Could easily be a left leaning polling clerk hoping everyone votes for anyone else but Tory. Most polling clerks come from local councils So don't assume anyone's politics

Why would a left wing person be saying that the labour candidate can’t be voted for?

They could be partners in crime… I see you’ve been busy today trying to sabotage the SNP vote https://www.thenational.scot/news/24431425.glasgow-incorrect-voting-instructions Odd how these mistakes happen. Presumably you have a ranking system for Holyrood like we do down here, and someone just wasn’t switched on.
