Cool ….that’s one over the line

Happy to just take Greaves now the way the other is going

As someone else has said if we’ve got another £18m to chuck around for another winger / No10 I’m sure we can attract someone of similar ilk to Billie Jean.

I think Villa, no wait Everton, or was it Palace, WHU, Brighton, et al have all registered an interest in the player now, and bids are being submitted as we breathe. Man City have now insisted on a back clause and all this despite Delap confessing to being partial to cheese (specific type as yet to be divulged), and stating he wants to join us. Blue is definitely “ his colour”, and would prefer to wear the number 105 on his shirt and will only play in the team as an out and out striker, but if Town don’t recruit another GK, he’s willing to give it a go, but his agent has requested an additional 500% mark up on his salary on those games where he’s playing between the sticks. For an extra £50k p fee per game, if required by the Club, he could possibly play keeper, wing back and striker. The Club are considering these options.

Derby get a chunk of the fee from a sell-on when he moved to City.

What’s the delay to announce it if it’s done?

Genuine question. Think the general consensus for the past day or so has been it’s ’all but done’, but if finalised and ratified with the FA wouldn’t we announce it?

How does a 'buyback clause' work in simple terms?

Thanks

Phil’s referring to a sell on fee in this instance which is generally a % of profits from a future sale. Same as we had with Downes. Eg. If City paid £2m for him and sell him for £20m they’ve ‘made’ £18m. Not uncommon for clubs to have clauses entitling them to 10%-20% of that, so a likely 7 figure windfall for Derby.

Buyback is a clause which gives the selling club an option (sometimes time based) to buy the player back at a pre agreed price. Generally bigger clubs try to negotiate them in when selling players down the chain in case the player pops and they want to take them back. Eg with Delap I imagine it’s at least double what we’re playing, perhaps more, so if he bangs 20 goals a season for the next couple of years City can meet that valuation and we’re contractually obliged to accept it, and they can engage in negotiations with the player. No guarantee the player would want to go back though.

Indeed he did.

Deal is done though. I’m sure of that. And Phil’s run the story on the back of the source I believe.

It’ll be either today or tomorrow confirmed.
