On the balance of play on 22:39 - Jul 14 by Vic | We’ll differ on how we view Southgate as I th8nk he’s done so much to change atmosphere around the mens squad and team. That needed to be done. But think you’re right about getting someone to get us playing on the front foot, akin to what the players are used to week in week out. |
Wish we’d play a bit more like some of the EPL sides with high intensity and mixing our play up more, instead of conforming to this style of play which everyone must play it seems. [Post edited 14 Jul 2024 23:03]

Not sure I get what you mean Chris. What style of play are you not wanting us to conform to?

Pickford’s ball distribution is absolutely horrendous. Christ I’ve just been spoiled by what I’ve seen the past few years.

We go ‘home empty handed’ again

Seems like most clubs have been blindsided by Pep’s style at City and conform to that at all levels of football. Manager’s aren’t Pep, haven’t got his deeper knowledge to play that system or his players at their disposal. I’d like England to play a brand of football like Liverpool or Villa, they try and mix their play up and use our player’s strengths more. If I was the FA I’d try and get Jurgen Klopp in as our next England manager. Southgate has done lots of terrific things for England over his management, but let’s not pretend this tournament has shown us in the best light, we’ve stunk the place out at times.

Good win against the Dutch but otherwise looked solid at best or dross at worst. Will be remembered as another tournament of lots of talent, an easy draw but ultimately a decent distance from being good enough.

Agree with that. Got to admit that I’ve not watched much Prem football for the last few years so not sure how Peps is different from the others. What I seem to notice is that the top teams play a high press, looking to regain possession as soon as possible. So front foot football. Rather like town played last season (which seems to be why several people seem to predict that we’ll be OK this season. If we play that way, and fit the players in thier best positions we might just have to accept that we can’t play all the best players at the same time.

I don’t disagree with your view on Southgate’s achievement in changing the mood around England, but he should have gone after the Italy game. Everyone in every job has a ‘shelf life’.
