Ballot 13:30 - Jul 16 with 6871 viewsChris_ITFC

The most obvious flaw in the new set-up seems to be that a ballot winner can only buy 1 ticket presumably - so what happens to those you go with? Eg. Parent and child

Any advance on “Tough luck”..?

No doubt once it is up and running some bright spark will exploit a loophole in the system.

For me, I think the size of group should be limited to a max of 4 to allow the average family to get tickets. You could even argue 2 or 3.

I'm not sure anyone should be disadvantaged because they want to take their kid along. You've got to think of the lifeblood of the club.

Whatever happens, it won't keep everyone happy.

However, I do know this if Ipswich have a season like Sheffield United last time, you won't have a problem getting tickets from January onwards after the fairweather fans have decided the follow the town, up or down doesn't quite apply to them.

So does that mean that a family of four have a 4 chances to win a set of 4 tickets whereas a singleton would have just the one chance?

I’d imagine they would make 1 application for 4 tickets having paid for 4 memberships.

Yes, exactly - seems like common sense.

There’s no perfect system, but you ‘apply’ for what you want, and that’s your place in the ballot - would be how most equivalent systems work.

I am season ticket holder, daughter is member who went to most games last season. Last year I "moved" my season ticket seat on a game by game basis so we could sit together. Any idea how this will work under the new system if she gets a ticket in the ballot?

I have emailed ticket office but thought I would ask here too.

Thanks, but won't be able to choose seat next to me in SBRL so I'll need to move.

I’ve just spoken to Tom in the ticket office and he’s confirmed that, indeed, that’s how it’s going to work.
For home games people who want to sit with each other (whether it’s adult/child groups or groups of adults) make one joint application to go in the ballot. The people in your joint application must be listed as family/friends in your account. “Within reason” there’s no maximum group size. In the ballot you’re either all successful or none of you are successful.
This seems like the most sensible way forward although I’m surprised the club didn’t include this on their Q&A.

I made this point last week:

"I think I'll be OK this season as the last few, but I agree that a ballot is a good idea, but surely most people will want to go with at least one other friend/partner etc. I wonder should winning a place entitle you to two tickets, as long as the other person is also a member?"

You heard it here first....

So, does this mean that a group of 4, say, will have a four times greater chance of success than an individual?

I think it depends on whether the group of 4 is classed as one entry or not. Would be good to clarify that.

I hope that's how it works, otherwise it's a bit of a p take.

But the ballot for the away scheme only kicks in after the priority has been exhausted.

For home games there is in effect no priority system which I don't think is right.

That would create the same closed shop for home tickets as there is for away ones, though. That is great for rewarding the loyal away fans but to encourage a broader support at home, this system allows more fans to see at least one live game.

I would like to think there will be some way in which once successful, you will not succeed ahead of someone who was previously unsuccessful until they have succeeded too. That way anyone who has the right to be in the ballot will get the same number of matches to attend if they apply for every home game. I am pretty sure there was a system like that last time we were in the Prem.
