I got the impression from Kieran's post match comments that he was giving Ashton a little nudge to focus minds on strengthening the squad.
As well as Harness did, to have him, Ladapo, Barbrook etc. involved underlines how thin we are. The squad did need major surgery to compete next season, no matter how attached we are to the Class of 2023-24. |  | | |  |

What are you assuring me on because as I say even if McKenna is internally frustrated (like 90% most pre season) he's not going around showing it. That would be very poor management and I think we know he's not in that bucket.
Would he/Ashton/we like a few more onboard. Yep. That's absolutely obvious. Is it a big crisis. No. Will we get more in. Yes.

Yep, I'm sure they are frustrated, but it's football, happens to every club which is why you have various plans in place.
In an ideal world everyone would do all their business by mid July in preparation for pre season, however, given most business takes place on the final day, it proves that it is virtually impossible.
There are so many moving parts to transfers, clubs moving goalposts trying to squeeze what they can, other clubs coming in at the last minute, clubs offering more money etc, you'd be naive to think just because we made a bid it's a foregone conclusion.
The last thing we need is for fans to have meltdowns, frustrating? yes, but spitting dummies out isn't going to help anyone. |  |

It's because we have zero squad depth in crucial areas and a glaring lack of quality to even compete at PL level.
As a side note, I really believe the transfer window should shut before the first PL game. What use is it starting the season knowing full well players still have a fortnight to move on? [Post edited 2 Aug 2024 8:50]

So you could say that we have lost 9 and brought in 5 higher quality players. Of course you would have had to add Hutchinson to the other list if we didn't sign him. Williams doesn't really count either. The season hasn't even started and the window will be open for a while after that. I would argue that we are doing well so far. It's not ideal for us that new signings from now won't have much a preseason as our advantage over other teams is the togetherness of the club and the coaching. The injuries are unlucky.

Where's the over dramatisation? Both clubs thought he was their new manager.. thankfully for us it didn't happen on both accounts.. but you're making it sound like it wasn't even close which goes against what we've been told.
Transfers.. we've just cancelled a friendly because we don't have enough players and we have 2 weeks to go until season starts. So yes it's OK to think transfer activity has been slower than ideal followed by the manager himself saying the same. | |

Even if we get players in, in some games we will get slaughtered. Town fans probably need to get themselves prepared for one or two 5-0, 6-0 type defeats. It happens, especially to promoted teams. Anyone who thinks a team can go from L1 to Prem in two seasons and simply buy 11 players and not suffer the occasional heavy defeat isn't living in the real world.
Southampton, you could argue was an established PL team after being there 10 years before relegation in 2023, and they still suffered some very heavy (slaughtered) defeats. It will happen.
The important thing in the first season is to be competitive in all games, but accept some heavy defeats will happen.
I'm sensing already if the results go against us in the L'pool & ManC games some fans will be jumping up and down with stupid comments like 'if we had bought player x and y we win that City game 7-2' |  | | |

Not quite I heard, but at one point we was confident he would join as Southampton were dragging their heels on the deal (they were trying to swap Walker-Peters for him and it wasnât quite working out). Martin had to intervene and ultimately he was always going to go there if Southampton agreed a deal with West Ham. |  |
