The engine room is so clearly light 10:15 - Jul 28 with 2750 viewscbower

In almost every other position (maybe not left back), when everyone is fit we have some interchangeability at least. In midfield, we have none. I love what Luongo has done here in the last 18 months but is he really mobile enough for the Premier League? It is questionable. I think Morsy will make the step up in standard but as Texters has noted, I fear multiple suspensions. Is McKenna even seeing Taylor as a midfielder? We are, in my opinion, an injury to Morsy away from a big problem. I also think we will play 4321 at times to avoid being overrun in the centre of the park too. We need 2 more central midfielders with the physicality and athleticism for this league. I hope at least one in advance of August 17th.

My theory being Luongo's role is the one we're planning to fill with Szmodics. A physical, attacking midfielder who knows where the goal is.

Good Lord! Whatever is it?

Think we get at least two CM's in before the window shuts.

At pboro Taylor looked better higher up for us he seems better splaying the ball around from deeper, but then you miss his shooting ability, having said that he should have scored yesterday,
I think when he was brought he was supposed to be more forward and another option for a ten for a couple of years in the championship,
But because of our quick rise mkenna has the problem off what to do with him,
I think he's a very good footballer just our prominent rise might cost him at town,

I hope not! Looking forward to having him in the broady role and score 27 for us. Maybe. OK unlikely but we need a CDM in Luongo's role.

I can't see that in the slightest. Two completely different players.

Luongo is more of a sitting midfielder. He sits and fills in the gaps when Davis or Clarke bombs forward, Szmodics isn't going to be doing that. I suspect he's seen as an improvement to Chaplin.

I'd quite like to have Broadhead (or A N Other) in the left inside forward role scoring goals, plus Szmodics at AM getting a hatful himself.

We're clearly looking for CM's. We've made enquiries about Downes. This young lad from Brum seems like he has real potential, but it's a big step up from the Championship. We need someone else with a bit more experience. If we're serious about him, we'll need to buy another more experienced CM.
Am I alone in thinking that Taylor isn't quite right as both a deep-lying CM or as a 10? Not sure he fits or is good enough.

For the quality we need(because as the pundits say, games are won and lost in the midfield)I can imagine it's proving very difficult, crazy valuations no doubt, Downes would have been ideal....

There is no doubt we'll have less of the ball this season so real athleticism is needed, I trust McKenna though, it simply may have to be a couple of quality loans will be needed, with some experience too..

We need to sign Luton's Ross Barkley equivalent. But those players aren't easy to come by.

I think Szmodics will compete with Chaplin and Omari for the no.10. Omari will play a good number at LM and compete with Broadhead and one other new signing (Sarmiento?).
Burns, Delap and Omari competing for RM.

Need a couple of CMs, striker, left back and left winger.

Been saying this for a fortnight now , games will be and are won and lost in midfield in whatever league - but most definitely the Premier League

The recruitment here is not only important but required asap to get bedded in

Love to see us go for Aribo from Southampton. He was brilliant last season, especially in that amazing 3-2 home win. He had pace going forward and helping in defence with some great tackles, he ran the midfield for Southampton that night. Thankfully Martin made the crazy decision to sub him. I still think if he was on the pitch, he's tackling Sarmiento in that situation, or at least stopping Leif having all the space to cross the ball that Downs let Leif have

Probably will cost too much, but would be perfect for us.

I see him in the Lampard role, attacking from midfield. The problem for him is we don't play that way!

This.

We play with 2 sitting midfielders, and he never looked comfortable doing that last season. I did wonder if we would play this season with 3 in midfield at times and so he could be the one with the license to break forward.
