I agree he's a level up on players like Jackson and Harness, so in that respect he improves us vs. last season. It's just whether he's enough of a level up at the best part of £10m for a soon to be 29 year old who for me has only ever looked every bit a Championship player. I don't think every signing needs to be about future value, there's a balance between that and players who can take us to PL level in the here and now. I'm cynical if he offers that though personally.
Do agree with the point about him as a 'false 9' off Hirst or Delap which is where he was so effective last season and making those runs in behind the #9. I'm remaining open minded, I'm just nervous he's had his purple patch.
As long as he contributes to us staying up I don't think we're too bothered about resale value at 29. We have to tread the line in terms of youth vs experience but the value in staying up is worth net investments overall.
Worth remembering that Morsy came at a similar age with about 50% of his career in leagues 1 & 2 and we're not questioning whether he'll do the job.
How long can it take to agree a fee with Blackburn? Seems like both sides are being stubborn and difficult despite not being far apart at all and all 3 parties including Szmodics knowing this eventually happens.

I’m wondering if the fee wasn’t the only issue with this transfer to date
Has to do with Blackburn finding a replacement before selling within a timely fashion I would suggest directed from our perspective - or something similar I’d have thought
Can’t imagine the fee alone taking this long to agree to and as reported the player’s terms have been agreed

Possibly, yeah. Szmodics himself has been ready to move for 2-3 weeks and hasn't played in their last 3 pre season games. Blackburn are definitely a nightmare to deal with.

I don't think that's the case. Blackburn need the sale to go through so they can start spending some money. Without the money, they can't sign a replacement or any other players really. They're just digging their heels in and trying to get the best deal possible.

Well either way it’s counter productive and I’m surprised we haven’t moved on in terms of the length of time this has taken and how soon the season starts

Given how the negotiations went over Gallagher, it's not surprising it's not been straight forward.
Where did this post go? SkySports Tweet from an interview with the Blackburn keeper seeming confirming that Szmodics had left.
It didn't really confirm anything. He was asked with the likelyhood of both the Sams leaving that the team are going to have a massive amount of goals to find and he just confirmed that the team would have to step up and share the load. It wasn't a definitive answer saying that he has gone.

People need to grok that we are premier league now and when we want a player from a lower league small club negotiations will always be fraught and time consuming.
In the spirit of reconciliation and happiness at the end of the Banter Era (RIP) and as a result of promotion I have cleared out my ignore list. Look forwards to reading your posts!

You only have to go on the Blackburn forum to see their thoughts on Suhail Shaikh & Steve Waggott (Venky's people on the ground) to know the kind of people we're dealing with.
Plus, we already know all this over our pursuit of Gallagher in January, which they went back on.

It was definitely a slip, else Sky would have left the post there. Someone, at either end, has asked them to remove the post.
That doesn’t happen, and someone like Sky doesn’t agree for no reason.

I'm sure Ashton would tell you this one has been especially painful. This has been 'close' for 10 days hence him being left out of their pre season game on the 20th. Must be quibbling over very little now!

I'm not sure why it's been removed but it really wasn't anything to get excited over. He was just answering a supposed question.
Honestly, it looks more suspicious now it's been removed as one or both of the clubs could've asked for it to be removed until confirmation of the deal is released but why would Sky bend over and let the clubs tell them what they can and can't report? They're always commenting on speculation.

"why would Sky bend over and let the clubs tell them what they can and can't report?"
There are a multitude of reasons. Some clubs put NDA's in players contracts for example.
