Defence sorted 09:58 - Aug 1 with 2701 views | Hackneyblueboy | Townsend signing should mean we're sorted at the back now (other than GK) What else do we need? 7 more by my estimations. Striker CM x 2 Number 10 (Szmodics) LM GK x 2

Because McKenna likes working with 3 keepers. Slicker has said that the next stage is for him to find a loan this season, and it'll all depend on if Walton wants to leave for more regular first team football. Given he's only got a year left on his deal, we may want to move him out for a small fee as well. So not out of the realms that we may need another 2 keepers this summer.

David Marshall will be the 3rd Keeper. Brought in as a player/coach.

Personally think that with David Martin in what looks like a bit of hybrid coach/training keeper role that we might see Henry Gray as the 3rd choice/warm up keeper. Has trained quite a bit with the first team already.

When Martin was announced by the club, it mentioned nothing about him being a player, just simply a 'training keeper' Of course, we may well be added as a player in an emergency, but as things stand he isn't registered as a player. I think they'll want someone with more experience than Gray as 3rd choice as well.

This was the wording from the club website when they announced it ... nothing about him being registered as a player. "Meanwhile, David Martin has joined Town in a role that will see him assist Head of Goalkeeping Rene Gilmartin in supporting goalkeeper development throughout the Academy pathway. David, who has represented MK Dons, West Ham United, Southend United and other clubs between the sticks during his career, will also help with training, scouting and recruitment, and monitoring the Club’s shot-stoppers who are on loan at other clubs. A former teammate of new signing Ben Johnson at London Stadium, David will be a positive presence around Playford Road and will train with the first-team group when required."

Wouldn't surprise me at all if he's put down as 3rd choice keeper...given that he's fully fit and we are likely to have less games this season. How many games have our 3rd keepers played in the last 3 years?

He couldn't get a game at Southend so I very much doubt he'll feature in KM's plans.

How often does a 3rd choice keeper play though? Scott Carson has been at Man City 5 seasons and played once. Richard Wright was there 4 seasons and never played. Be surprised if we recruit someone to be 3rd choice keeper. Nobody of any quality you'd trust to step into a PL game is going to come here on that basis.

I can see Walton staying. He might want to leave for first team football but would he get a Championship job or possibly have to drop back to League 1? Either way would be a pay cut most likely and the club probably having to subsidise his wages which would negate any fee. Can see us keeping him around as he knows the club and what's expected and you never know with football, Muric could pick up an injury and suddenly he has a chance to prove himself as a Premier League goalkeeper!

Genuine Question here about Walton Have we already outgrown him with the way we play and could we be looking to make some money from him rather than losing him on a free? It was only a friendly but you could see how vastly different his style of keeping is to someone like Muric and how different he was to Hladky as I wouldnt call Walton in any way a sweeper keeper and he's not that prolific with his feet. Not the worse, but wouldn't say he's comfortable in comparison.

I know that I'm old fashioned, but I will always judge a goalkeeper by what he is like with his hands and with crosses, rather than what he is like with his feet. They are far more important attributes in my opinion, especially when we are likely to be defending more this season.

I get the logic, he might want first team football and get a transfer fee now rather than letting him go for free next summer. But who is paying for Walton and how much do you reckon we'd get for him? Then we'd have to bring in a replacement which may well cost more than we'd get for Walton and they'd most likely be back up anyway. Don't get me wrong, it could happen. I just think it will be a much lower priority than filling out the rest of the squad.
Defence sorted on 13:44 - Aug 1 with 1104 views | tetchris | Most PL clubs have four keepers. If Walton leaves for first team football and slicker goes out in loan then we need at least two new keepers
Defence sorted on 13:44 - Aug 1 with 1101 views | Parky | Obviously not a priority right now, but I wouldn’t be too surprised if we signed a new right footed CB to partner Greaves and allow either Axel, Fridge or Woolf to leave. We were evidently interested in Rodon earlier on this summer.
Defence sorted on 14:29 - Aug 1 with 926 views | floridaboy | With Broadhead very injury prone why not play Davis further forward play Townsend in a position he is very comfortable with - left back! We then get the bedt of both worlds. One very good defender and one very good crosser of a ball. Maybe that is why he has been brought in!
