Away team hotels 14:16 - Aug 13 with 13002 viewsitfc11

Where do we think the away teams will stay this year? Must be looking to an upgrade on last years away hotel.

Someone told me they spoke to someone at Spurs, bit vague I know, but apparently there are just no suitable hotels here to cater for the amount of staff that they take to away games

With all of that land behind Churchmans now ours, it'd be a no-brainer to build a decent hotel and run it with away clubs in mind, surely?

Or even lease to a reputable hotel chain

Surely each team will be different. However mostly I would think the nearest 4 or 5 star that can accommodate 20 odd players and all the support staff.

The major Prem teams take 70 rooms, and require 4-star minimum and sports facilities. Not sure the Penta quite cuts it.

A luxury hotel in a town centre that will get used 19 nights a year?

Why would ITFC stump up for that? They don’t have to provide anything for teams the night before a game. Fck em.

So the hotel books out the fixture dates, then rents out the hotel to anyone else during the year. Not sure why you think that would be bad business?

I know this town has gone downhill over the last 5-10 years, but we now have a Premier League club with reasons to invest in our currently hollow town centre. Why on earth wouldn't we consider something like that?

well its about the standard level of "def info" on here, so it must be true ;)

Ipswich has had for years very low number of available hotel rooms, and not just 4 star hotels, but across the whole range, its apparently why we've never ended up with a conference centre built in the town because there literally wouldnt be enough space in hotels for people to book and then attend anything.

but some of the largesse people are claiming, I dont know many 4 star hotels that have 70+ rooms available, I mean the Ritz in London only has 112 rooms, kind of the point of a posh hotel in the UK, is its exclusivity and lower guest count to then give you that exclusive service, its not a flippin Disney Cruise ship.

I had a Saturday job at the Belstead Brook when last in the Prem, and that's where most of the away teams stayed. But even back then, it needed some investment & TLC.

In the early 80’s my mate had the same job as you, King Kenny gave him a pair of multi studded boots when Liverpool stayed there. My mate wore them for Sunday league.

I just don’t see the need for a luxury hotel in Ipswich town centre. Not enough people come here on non match days for it to be viable.

I remember the Barnsley team stayed at the Lavenham Swan back in the early 90's on one occasion. No idea if it was a popular choice for visiting teams back then.

Spurs could drive to Portman Road in an hour and a half. A hotel seems a bit OTT

Bibby Stockholm is available, multi roomed, tow it round the channel, up the coast, into the dock, instant hotel.

Bit different from the old days.

My dad was travelling back from London on the train the night before and came across Don Revies's Leeds team. He got their autographs and I still have them, and there was little in the way of camp followers.

In those days, they would have pushed the boat out and perhaps stayed at the Copdock.

EDIT: Maybe I am misremembering but I think the Copdock was also a venue in those days, and I remember reading in the Star that only a couple of people turned up to see Mike and Bernie Winters, sometime in the 70s.

Where’s your guess ?

My mate is getting married at Stoke by Nayland on Saturday, so is staying on Friday for a round of golf etc. Reckons they couldn’t confirm, but hinted that Liverpool might be staying there.

Suspect that was a one off. Their board often went out with ours at the time. We beat them 6-1 on a bank holiday once and they all went out afterwards and got absolutely smashed.
