How was Saturday for you? 15:51 - Aug 19 with 5494 viewsSitfcB

Forgetting the game/result, how was the occasion for you?

I had a few tears before the game, thinking of how far we’ve come, thinking of those we’ve lost on the way, thinking how a literal dream had come true.

PR looked great, the pitch looked better than ever, the media ‘frenzy’ pitch side down the side of the West Stand was a sight in itself!

Emotional again when the players came out and when the PL anthem was played, me and my boy had been looking forward to hearing that.

Proud at FT, of the players, the club and the fans.

A great occasion I thought, so much so I didn’t get home until 2am after drinking from 8am - oh dear God knows what I’d have been like had we got a result.

Ipswich supporters? I know a few who live here. At one point there were three families (one mine before divorce) living on the same street who support Ipswich - and also a family of Norwich fans in another house.

Lived here 17 years and been to Betty’s twice - overpriced and overhyped. Queue is usually the day trippers.

No, father-in-law is a Villa supporter. A couple seasons ago I was walking through the town from the station and a bunch of Leeds fans were taking the Micky as I was wearing a Town shirt back from a game. Football can change very quickly.

Strange one for me. If I had told my younger self that after 22 years outside of the top flight and back-to-back promotions I wouldn't be at the game for Liverpool at home, I'd have thought you were crazy.

But I wasn't even watching the game. Instead listening to the excellent commentary on TownTV. I then watched the full match later, knowing the result. This will probably be the pattern for me. If anything changes it will likely be listening to the game, as I didn't plan on waking up at 4:30am.

I thoroughly enjoyed it though. really proud of the players. I can see them doing better than this game. A few sharper passes and the goals will come. Really interesting to see the difference in the number of freekicks Omari won. He may even get a penalty when he is sycthed down in the box this season! Delap has improve a lot since his first pre-season. Not unexpected, but by how much was still a shock. I thought it would take him much longer to get the pressing side and his control and power was great. Greaves was impressive too. I see why TRUEBLUE was so keen on them. Everyone looked like they are capable of contributing this season.

It's likely to be a fantastic season and I'm looking forward to the next game, but more so getting the Man City game out of the way and seeing what we can do with teams that I think we can better this season.

Such a shame for Wes. That was the only thing that dented the occasion for me.

A blend of surreal, emotional, prideful, fun, frustrating, concerning. Splendid day.

Contrary perhaps, but I also love 12.30 kick offs - was back in North Suffolk, half-cut, by 6pm for a BBQ.

We had a chit chat in the men’s grooming room didn’t we?

It’s all a bit of a blur. I think I saw carpet mad as well.

You know what? I still don’t get the hoo ha.

Herbert keeps telling me that he had never gone on the piss while we have been a premier team.

I know I’ve got a screw loose and I know my memory capacity is in question - but in my mind it was only yesterday we were in the prem.

Is one Terry D, who I played over 65s walking football with at the Burley-i-W sports ground with, pre-Covid? He played as a striker - I nicknamed him Freddie!

I've lived in N. or W. Yorkshire for around 45 years & have never been to Betty's!

Thought I was staying pretty cool, albeit a bit nervous & of course excited. Until the players came down the tunnel onto the pitch & I found the tears just rolling down my cheeks ...

Felt like nothing whatsoever to do with me, just my unconscious or subconscious taking over & 50 years of loving Town welling out!

We had a good day, my son and I. Managed to have a couple of drinks beforehand which gave us a chance to just appreciate the occasion. I was really glad it was Liverpool – that seemed the right team.

I felt a bit emotional when on our normal walk to the ground we got past the GRE building and Portman Road reared up. There were a few Liverpool fans in front of us and I just blurted out “fückin hell, we’re playing Liverpool” (which now makes me think, “fücking hell, it’s Fred Titmus”).

Nice to see all the old faces at the start of the season. Beyond that, it felt like a normal match after a few mins, against a good team.

It was really good to see a lot of the League 1 veterans playing and competing well. Little bit of melancholy at the thought of the PL swallowing everything up. The Liverpool fans being so quiet was odd.

I was regretting the Wetherspoons breakfast by the time I got home.

It was exciting and wonderful. More than lived up to expectations, apart from the result. A fan since 1968, and regular attendee in the 70's , I missed seeing us in the Prem with two young boys to look after and then financial and time constraints due to working full time. A couple of years ago, I had actually resigned myself to never seeing us at the top table, so Saturday was brilliant for me and payback for 20 odd years of dross.
