Liverpool St return for Fulham £52!!! Really?! on 16:04 - Aug 20 with 5174 views | DanTheMan | Train prices are obscene. Had a look at the price of a standard off-peak return from Nottingham to Glasgow for a stag do the other day, which was £178.

Prices are a joke for the product and general atrocious service but that won’t change any time soon.

Liverpool St. I live in Switzerland where the price of things is generally obscene but even they don't charge £52 for a 2 hour return journey... I will obviously pay because I don't go to many games but 'kin ell. Ridiculous.
Liverpool St return for Fulham £52!!! Really?! on 16:08 - Aug 20 with 5090 views | Reus30 | Trains are absurd. Scotland just removed the peak fare scheme so it will be a free-for-all not to mention the temporary timetable bs. Greedy trolls. Honestly, just drive everywhere now. Although England has the £2 bus cap rule doesn't it....
Liverpool St return for Fulham £52!!! Really?! on 16:08 - Aug 20 with 5092 views | Deano69 | We needed to get 12 of us the the O2, The railways were in a mess (weekend). Ended up hiring a 52 seater coach with a driver (and on-board toilet) for less than the off peak rail fare and delivered almost door to door

One of my colleagues needed to travel to Edinburgh (or could’ve been Glasgow) from Bristol and it was far cheaper to fly, rather than to use the train to get there. As others have said, trains are ridiculously expensive and the service is quite poor. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Trains are just the worst! And there is always some nob having an inappropriate conversation on their phone on loud speaker? "What's that nan? No, I am ok, it's just gonorrhea. Getting up to mad tings at the weekend init"

Buses are definitely only £2 in Yorkshire. Not sure about elsewhere Talking about train fares. Just booked a return from York to Stockport for work. Over £60 plus a few changes along the way. Trains from east to west/west to east in the UK are a nightmare

The thing is, I would rather use the train as I dislike driving but the cost is simply prohibitive.

Liverpool St return for Fulham £52!!! Really?! on 16:48 - Aug 20 with 4359 views | dickie | Took my kids to the natural history museum last week - was significantly cheaper to drive to Kensington, pay the congestion charge then 33 quid to park all day than get the train from Ipswich. Meant we could stay later in London too as my kids slept in the car on the way home instead of having to traipse back to Liverpool Street.
Liverpool St return for Fulham £52!!! Really?! on 16:54 - Aug 20 with 4302 views | badadski | Standard peak return to London from Ipswich Is now over £80 - it’s just rip off due to going to London - Ipswich to Colchester is now £19 return peak time and Colchester is what ? 17 miles away - you can get a return fair to Norwich or Cambridge for just a few pounds more at over double the distance - it’s crazy travelling on the way to London - best deals with kids is actually going to the station receoption and speaking to the staff as so many deals that online websites don’t offer
Liverpool St return for Fulham £52!!! Really?! on 17:21 - Aug 20 with 4170 views | Luggworm | If you buy a return to Manningtree from Liverpool St and then a return from Manningtree to Ipswich then the price comes down to £45 - no need to change trains, yes train prices in the UK are mad
Liverpool St return for Fulham £52!!! Really?! on 17:33 - Aug 20 with 4087 views | Stenvict | Got to be booking well in advance. I've paid £18.25 return for that journey (with a railcard), and £15.60 for a return ticket to Southampton for that game.

You might find it cheaper to get a return from a station the other side of London to Ipswich, even if you don't travel on the leg into London. Looking at the South Eastern website, I can currently get a return for £40 from Tonbridge (30 miles south east of London) to Ipswich, getting the 10.50 there and the 17.20 back. This involves getting an advance single each way which means you have to travel on specific trains. As it is, I am going to the game with such tickets, and managed to get them for £26, with one third off due to a rail card. [Post edited 20 Aug 2024 17:36]

Liverpool St return for Fulham £52!!! Really?! on 17:39 - Aug 20 with 4019 views | SitfcB | Is it just you? A group save (minimum of 3 people brings the cost down - to £34pp) Train prices are only good if you book way in advance and have a railcard. Managed to get a return to Brighton for me and my son for £31 and Southampton £40. You’re lucky you’ve not got bus replacements

There's also the Two Together rail card which isn't age related.

Liverpool St return for Fulham £52!!! Really?! on 18:22 - Aug 20 with 3724 views | Illinoisblue | Had similar issue at Xmas. Family of four day return off peak midweek came to over 200 quid. It’s a travesty. There’s probably a group saver special this special that change at manningtree do ten push ups smile at the train driver mega ticket saver available. But there shouldn’t have to be.
