Really?! on 16:06 - Aug 20 by nrb1985 | Liverpool St. I live in Switzerland where the price of things is generally obscene but even they don't charge £52 for a 2 hour return journey... I will obviously pay because I don't go to many games but 'kin ell. Ridiculous. |
Get a National bus from Victoria station straight to Ipswich cattle market bust station around £40 return …..bargain .

Liverpool St return for Fulham £52!!! Really?! on 16:33 - Aug 20 by NedPlimpton | Buses are definitely only £2 in Yorkshire. Not sure about elsewhere Talking about train fares. Just booked a return from York to Stockport for work. Over £60 plus a few changes along the way. Trains from east to west/west to east in the UK are a nightmare |
£2 bus fares may soon be a thing of the past. Likely to be Starmered. Apparently not a targeted enough benefit, Expect free bus passes for Pensioners to be next target.

Can’t remember how much we paid, but when we was in Switzerland 5 years ago we paid nowhere near £52, and we got the train from Zurich Airport to Lucerne, 72 hour rail pass for Lucerne and surrounding areas and travel back to Zurich Airport on the Monday. This country is a joke for its rail travel.

Liverpool St return for Fulham £52!!! Really?! on 17:21 - Aug 20 by Luggworm | If you buy a return to Manningtree from Liverpool St and then a return from Manningtree to Ipswich then the price comes down to £45 - no need to change trains, yes train prices in the UK are mad |
A Network Railcard (which anyone can buy) saves a further £13.65 on the London-Manningtree leg. They’re £30 for a year so will pay for themselves after three home matches. You can also get the same discount for up to four other adults travelling with you, plus other discounts for accompanying children.

I can’t speak for Switzerland, but spending a month travelling on the atrocious, overpriced German rail network during Euro 2024 made me appreciate just how much worse the railways in Britain could be. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Greater Anglia have a whole page dedicated to how to save money for football fans travelling by trains. https://www.greateranglia.co.uk/travel-information/football at least theyve not adopted surge pricing yet. Try a split ticket sites as well, they also throw up unusual combinations which come in cheaper than a straight return. Last weekend Leeds- Birmingham was cheaper with separate return tickets for Leeds Sheffield; Sheffield Derby; Derby Brum legs staying on the same train.

I thought they all legally had to show split ticket prices now? Certainly the Trainline does.

I've found that Trainline/Trainpal doesn't always offer the optimum split fare so I usually double check with a split fare site.

I don't have the data obviously but it's been a success as it actually encourages people to take the bus to town or the airport etc rather than drive or cab. It would not surprise me if they cut it though, easy ways to make profit whilst losing customers who would not normally get the bus. I mean FFS, need to make their mind up what is the priority. Bending people over for profit or encouraging change for climate and public transport as a whole.
Liverpool St return for Fulham £52!!! Really?! on 07:10 - Aug 21 with 1672 views | BlueStreak | My season ticket is £8,500 a year and I only go in the office 3/4 days a week. That’s out of my net pay so essentially costs me £15k a year just to get to work which is thoroughly depressing. GA have made it so it’s impossible to travel peak time at a reasonable price for a one hour journey as they have such a monopoly over it all. The trains are more efficient and are much nicer now with the new stock but Jesus we pay for it.

Liverpool St return for Fulham £52!!! Really?! on 13:12 - Aug 21 with 1554 views | nrb1985 | Thanks for all the useful suggestions. It was indeed cheaper on the split fare website but only by £7 and could only take the nominated trains. Just paid full fare in the end for the flexibility of having a pint after and not rushing. Lesson learnt, book well in advance and will definitely use split fare going forward though! Thanks again.

The ticket site might have misled you somehow, but you definitely don’t need to take nominated trains when splitting at Manningtree. It’s a super off-peak day return to Manningtree and then an off-peak day return to Ipswich. The only extra condition is that you have to take trains that call at Manningtree, but practically all of them do.
Liverpool St return for Fulham £52!!! Really?! on 00:10 - Aug 22 with 1344 views | vinceg | Paying £152 for my return ticket to Manchester for the City game, and that includes 20% off for the Ipswich to Liv St journey on my over-50s railcard. But I really can't be asred to drive and hate travelling on coaches. Add in the footy ticket, a hotel and food and drink and not much change from about £400. We'd better bloody win!
