Did anyone really expect Davis to have Salah and Savinho in his pocket all game.
He was playing in League 1 two seasons ago for Christ sake.
He is going to take time to get used to this level, tbf I recall a few saying the same at the start of last season he has to change his game slightly, or we will see a more rigid formation going forwards where he doesn't have as much freedom to go up and down. |  |

Oh good another thread bemoaning the natural use of a football forum from people who wish to discuss the good the bad and the ugly of football.
No. No one expected Davis to have them in his pocket. Is there a theme with Davis that he struggles against speed yes. Is there time for him to develop and get better yes. Is this the end of the world No.
Did muric make mistakes yes. Has it been discussed yes. Will he learn hopefully.
Did wolfy make mistakes.. possibly I can't say I notice but offers Did. Will he learn probably. Does KM want another cb yes as we've signed one.
Did luongo have a good game No. Was it because it was city possibly. Will be be a regular starter No. Does it matter No.
Have we had a horrid start. Yes if you go by points gained. Absolutely not when you expect 0 anyway and it was more about adapting to the prem.
Is the forum a negative hell cell. No. Have people discussed things correctly. Is there a good mix of positive and negative threads. Yes
Are there most threads like these moaning about moans than there are loans.. yes.

It was a bad, unnecessary error, which completely changed the run of the game for us, putting us immediately under pressure from being in a great position.
In short, he lost his head there & put in a tackle in the box, when there was no clear threat; which had a massive impact on the game.
This incident deserves scrutiny & it is fair to be critical of him for it.
Now, the question is, will he be able to dust himself off & prove to be Premier League quality left back that everyone has assumed him to be; many of whom had called for his inclusion in the England Euros squad?
His quality going forward is clear, although his crossing yesterday was not great, but he does still have to prove himself as a top class defender, and that aspect of his game will be tested more & more as the season goes on. He won't have Salah or Savinho every week, but he will have Premier League quality right sided attackers every week, and you can be sure that any perceived weakness he has, will be targetted by some of the best managers/coaches in the world - he'll be up against Saka v Arsenal & even next up with Fulham he'll have to deal with Adama Traore, who was excellent against Man Utd & I see was Motm for them again yesterday.

Anyone criticising any of those players, with maybe the exception of the couple of mistakes by Muric, need a reality check, Those players haven’t shamed themselves at all, what a way to start the season, Liverpool and city, we’ve came through them without a real hammering, it’s the little individual mistakes, 5 minutes of madness that in league one or the championship we would normally ride out, which have cost us, but we will iron these mistakes out, especially with the additions to the squad, our season starts this Saturday against Fulham, Uppa town.!! |  | | |

But, last season and the one before, Davis has been great going forward and not so great at defending. In Premiership this will be exposed more and more. This is why the 25-30 million some people have put on his head on here is way off the mark IMO. And why he will never play for England, again, despite what some of our fan base believe. |  | | |

It really isn't very complicated. He is not and never has been a good defender. He's a cult hero because of how he goes forward and bolsters our attack.

He is still young enough to learn and adapt to the PL. Defensively, the whole squad will learn a lot from the first 2 games and will change accordingly. McKenna is not so set in his ways to make the changes needed. As long as we stick to our principle and philosophy of attack based football, then I am a happy fan. I don't want us to be scared of anyone and change the way we play. If we get beat trying to play our way, then so be it. If we go down, let's go down our way. |  |

The reality is that Davis has had a couple of sticky games, by his standards. But, he’s young, he has played football at Championship and L1 level until now and is obviously playing a different role to previous seasons. I every confidence that he will learn and that he is good enough. I also think it is ok to discuss on this forum that he hasn’t been at his best, as this forum is the place to talk about Town and our players. We just need to do it with respect: discuss it, don’t be a d1ck about it. The step up our players are having to adjust to is beyond anything we can imagine, and they’ve had to do it against two of the biggest clubs in world football. All players are going to make more mistakes, there is absolutely no doubt about that. And it’s ok to talk about that, just don’t be a d1ck about it. |  |

My issue is the double standards. Some players, as almost alluded to above, get criticised despite barely putting a foot wrong. Others have barely anything said against them even when responsible for goals. Should Davis be judged by these games against the top two teams in the country? Davis has been huge for us since he came to the club but if he has an eye for playing international football he will have to improve his defending , that for me is pretty obvious but never say never lets hope he can . | | | |

Very many people in these forums don’t discuss though do they! They assert options as though their view is holy scripture standing the test of centuries of robust to and fro. We see subject headers like Xyz player is awful. That’s not a reasoned discussion from the outset. It’s fine to discuss performance in the moment but in the context of past and future potential.
The football club doesn’t thrive in the moment, it thrives in the long term by battling through good and indifferent. The closer you get to the core of the support the more folks with throw away comments get pushed to the side, they are not the support that help you win battles. They are the fan boys better aligned with a Man U or Barca, they likely collect half and half scarfs! | |
