Can someone explain this signing to me please?
Obviously this will mean Woolfenden will be dropped?? Which I think is harsh and I don’t like.
This is the probably the first transfer that I’m not so sure on? It was reported he didn’t even want to come here? I hope we’re not getting players in just by offering them loads of cash?? |
He is a fantastic player and very much in the “leader” category.

Pro players know the score. It's a performance business. Fans are sentimental because they have been on the 'journey'. But KMc has shown his amenity to all of the squad being involved, he has shown that he has a system and picks players who do best in that system, and these are grown men who are in a results business, and paid pretty handsomely for being in the squad.
If they can't handle being out of the team in a mature way, either by upping their game or accepting this is a step too far and asking to move on to a team that is more their level, then that is their issue to deal with., maturely, with the manager.

Woolfy will get a lot of game time this season. As will Burgess. Along with Axel, O'Shea and Greaves we have a solid pool of centre halves. |  | | |

That’s how I’m looking at it. We tend to assume we’re just binning players off - but in reality it’s up to them to prove they are worthy of the shirt. |  |

I think McKenna said he wanted two players for each position. We have that now with one probably to go out and players like Axel and Johnson emergency cover as well at CB. Greaves and O’Shea have been signed to be the likely number one pairing imo. But this isn’t a given. O’Shea is rapid and will be used predominantly over woolfie for that exact reason. Obviously what you hope for is players like Woolfie and Burge step up again and force out the new boys. Competition is good and unless players don’t improve they won’t play. Too early to say who will do well and who won’t. We have a squad now nearly complete for McKenna to work with. Our season starts now. |  |

If all goes to plan I don't see them getting a lot of minutes tbh, as CBs generally play the full 90'. Maybe straight after the international break on occasions O'Shea returns home late. But they would both be one injury (or tiredness or loss of form) away from first choice so still very important to the squad. |  | | |
