News from his club today via media that he is going to sign a new deal and stay in Greece. If this was actually the case why come out and say this and not just do it ? I think it’s a signal to Ipswich to agree to the price they want before it’s too late. With Broja loan stalling, this could be a volley back of psychological negotiations between both clubs. I think there is a reason we were interested very early in the window and that’s to ease any transition and adaptation. I’m guessing only, if it was going to happen it would have happened. If wrong, great he looks like the type of striker that could do well for us. | |

Clubs tend to announce when a player signs a contract, it's less common for it to come out he's due to.
If anything, I'd say this is a warning to Sporting rather than us. IIRC Panathinaikos were happy with the offer we made for the player; the issue was he didn't want to come here. | |

Fotis has been running away from us the whole summer. A really good target and a marker for our ambition.
It's frustrating, but with him on the pitch yesterday, we could have occupied City's complacent defence a bit more.
Players like him, we may need to exist at this level for a season or two before we have any chance of landing.
Otherwise it's oh you want to buy Conor Gallagher? Who are you? Ipswich Town? Conor's not for sale but we can offer you Broja for £30 Mill loan oblig to buy. (We'll keep quiet about the ACL).

[long-time TWTD lurker, here; debut poster; hi all, what a time to be a Town fan!)
Ioannidis? Nketieh? Broja? Commit to buy clauses? Massive wages for players either yet to really do it or with injury history doubts? I think I'd prefer us to bring in an old(ish)-timer on a free or loan with PL or other top-flight experience who can do a job for us in the number 9 slot when needed, while we develop Delap (who's looked good), get Hirst fit, and give Ali a loan to go play regular football in the Championship (I'm assuming Ladapo is off to Derby). We've got extraordinary attacking options in Smods, Omari, Clarke, and don't necessarily need a no. 9 to bang in 20+ goals (obvs i'd be ok with that too!). But someone with top league knowhow who can also help improve others in training could be the ticket. An Ings, a Giroud, a Depay, etc. Not them obvs but someone like them. Then review things at Christmas.

Not sure on that as Broja a loan so the bigger money commitment would be next summer when we survive.
But I don't know how it works as I thought I read the Broja deal would still be a few £M loan fee or was that wrong? As even buying Fotos for say £25M, we can split that over 5 years so not much more than the loan for Broja so is it then just an issue of Fotis wages as weren't Chelsea covering all of Broja's wages?
As others have said I suspect Fotis too expensive now we have managed to get in Clarke and O'shea. [Post edited 25 Aug 2024 23:19]
