From your youth? Don’t have to be iconic as such just things that stuck in your mind. In no particular order:
The Crossroads motel burning down Ken Barlow and Mike Baldwin throwing hands over Deirdre. The firemen’s strike of the mid to late 70s and the “green goddess” engines being used The news reports of the two British soldiers who mistakenly drove into the IRA funeral parade.

That Moscow Olympic summer was a great coming of age summer for me.
Brilliant stuff.
Were you a Coe or Ovett fan, you had to be one or the other, not both.
Ovett for me.
It's the first Olympics I really remember (all I recall about Montreal was there being a police strike and David Wilkie winning a swimming medal and Reg White from Brightlingsea winning a sailing one). Being a bit younger than you I didn't really tap into the Coe/Ovett rivalry I just thought they were both great.
It was the summer before I started secondary school, and the week before I got knocked off a mate's bike so turned up at my new school with dressings on my head and neck.

It's difficult to say because everything you remember from wayback when has been re-documented and regurgitated by those TVs Greatest Failures Goes Horribly Wrong type programmes and youtube.
There's nothing left that i don't remember.
Apart from TV advert jingles. They just sub-consciously re-appear in my brain from 1979. Whoever invented them knew exactly what they were doing. They're tasty, tasty, very very tasty. grrrrrrrrrrrrr. Now Crackling Bran has re-appeared as well as Bran Flakes. What the hell was Crackling Bran?

PJ or Duncan getting blinded by a paintball. If aged 16 is my youth, 9/11 happening The reports of the big storm in the late 80’s, timed in with my grandad knocking on our door and pretending the wind was blowing him down the driveway (he was of course mucking around rolling on the floor, with my nanny calling him a prat)

Daley Thompson winning decathlon at the 1980 Olympics, swearing on live TV when he won Sports Personality of the Year in 1982 and winning gold again in 1984.
Plus Alan Wells winning the 100 metres at the Moscow Olympics, Coe and Ovett in the 800 and 1500 at the same games.
Bit of a sidetrack but who remembers playing Daley Thompsons decathlon on the ZX Spectrum? What a game that was. Hammering the crap out of the rubber keys in the 100m sprint. TWTD.

Jarvis Cocker mooning MJ at the Brit awards
The Brits was a constant source of iconic moments. As well as Jarvis there was the Mick Fleetwood / Sam Fox debacle, and a classic moment often overlooked when one of the guys from Carter USM rugby tackled Phillip Schofield because they got faded out.

Great thread, reminding me of many programmes from my childhood.
Tommy Cooper collapsing on stage on live tv in what seemed to be part of his act will always stay with me. An hour or so later on the news the main headline was that he had died.
