Helped that he got booked so early.

But you could see everytime he received the ball they surrounded him instantly prevent him from doing his usual drive up the pitch.

George Hurst helped us keep the ball with the hold up play second half.

Overall decent performance considering we know our players are not at the same level as the Brighton players.

Hurzeler is a a very clever coach. I expect him to achieve great things in the very near future.

I'd be tempted to play Hirst up top with Delap on the right next game. Delaps power on the right could be very dangerous, almost Jon Walters like

The only problem here is that Wes plays that position so well and is integral to how we play.

I thought he was great today bearing in mind how he’s returned from injury.

Interesting, because I thought he was pretty underwhelming overall. It was a tough game for someone playing the role/position he does so not really a criticism.

Not for me we have 2 strikers that have to play up front on their own , you need to have one on the bench as the one you start with will not last 90 minutes!

It doesn't help that refs have a lower threshold for what constitutes a yellow card with him.

I don't think they do.

Today he had 3 attempts at getting the ball and fouled them. The 4th attempt got the card.

He had a couple of small, niggly ones and then got booked. He gets away with a lot less than most players. I heard Howard Webb confirm this a few years ago - he said there are some players that refs like to book early to calm them down. He is definitely one of them.

I do sometimes wonder though if being skipper doesnt help with this, and no im not saying take away the armband lol, but I wondered if refs were keen to make their mark by saying i wont accept this from the skipper so don't do it yourself.

But I do often find with the yellows he gets, the tend to happen after a few as you say small niggly ones, problem is I think, they tend to happen around our box due to obviously his position, so when he does them it's not highly suprising when the yellow does come out.

Then when Hirst is done after 70mins we bring on who?

The inability to bring in another forward in the summer is going to hurt us

Think we will see the two rotate, and that's a nice option

Delap coming on against tired legs
or hirst coming on against tired legs and being able to help press late in the game

Both options will give us different ways of playing our games, and that's key

That’s the point Texters is making, if Delap played in Burns role then there’s no one to rotate.

You beat me to it!

rotating the two would be ok, but as Delap I probably one of our best players I don’t think we can afford to have him sitting in the bench.

100% we will bring in a top quality forward in January.

Great to have Hirst back and immediately on his game. Like last season basically. Good effort by the medical team.

New Striker
Drop Delap into the central 10 role? or push him wide?

And as you and others have said it would enable Delap and Hirst to play together if/as required.

I think Morsy was exposed for his lack of pace yesterday. You are correct that they were all over him but he was second best against their quick attacks which is why he got booked and gave aay another free kick in a dangerous area.

Morsy has been great this season and in the first three games he has looked every inch a Premier League player, but I don't think it is realistic for a 33 year old who has played all of his career in the lower leagues to be at his best for 38 league games. I think he will have to be used more sparingly to get his best. We also need to prepare for his hist ban in a few weeks time. He's already on three yellow cards after four games. Won't take him long to hit five.

Up against their number 20, who will probably go to a top 4 club for £100m!

i can see their substitutions being overlapped for a small time maybe 10-15 mins to give opposition teams a completely different problem to solve which maybe causes them to change shape which then we revert back to our system on the next change.... maybe when Wes is subbed is the chance to leave Delap on out wide for a period before Ogbene replaces him?

But that's the level we are playing. If he can't do it week in week out that's no slight on morsy he is after all 33.

We see it with casemiro who despite playing for utd has looked incredibly ropey.

Does not and will never mean morsy isn't important, he is but I think we may need to use him differently.

Morsy got a yellow for several niggly ones in quick succession.

But how that wasn’t even a foul on Omari a few minutes defies belief.

Refs are just as bad in the Prem as Champ and L1…. May as well have Stroud and Ward back and be done with it.
