Amex Stadium…. 22:13 - Sep 14 with 7701 viewsITFC_Forever

Is a nice enough ground in itself ….. but an absolute pain in the backside to get to.

We left Ipswich at 10.30 and thought that was more than enough time, got stuck on the M25, M23 and the road to Lewes. Lewes is too small a town to cope with thousands of football fans descending on it, so it took ages to park.

Finally got in the away end at 2.45…

That’s what happens when you build a football stadium in the middle of nowhere and then tell people they can’t park there… you transfer the traffic problem to somewhere else that also can’t cope.

We got an Uber from Brighton before the game that just dropped us right outside the away end at 14:35, and waited in the ground after for an hour having a couple of beers and by then the train was a short queue/wait.

A nice sunny day and good result meant that wasn’t too bad an option, wouldn’t have been fun if we’d have lost late on or whatever. Thousands of Brighton fans seemed to have the same idea standing outside so it must be a common thing for them too.

I think they do it weekly. Good idea really, club must make a fortune.

That said, in the middle of winter, raining, cold, not sure it would be fun!

We’ll be good again... one day

A21… then through crowbourgh or something 😂
Nice route!

The A26, which I live on and also travelled down on.

And did you know that Sir Arthur Conan Doyle lived latterly in Crowborough, which has nothing else going for it? You may have spotted the statute whilst stuck in traffic at the junction just past Lidl on the way back.

I actually had a really enjoyable away experience.

Coming from London on a nearly direct train (10 minute change at Lewes) I was able to get there in great time, and travelling back I managed to run past a lot of the crowd to get an earlier train, and was back at Victoria by 19:00.

First time I've been to a stadium where they've shown the early KO on TNT Live on the big screens actually in the stadium instead of the concourse, and the Free Wi-Fi and padded seats whilst not a neccessity, really did improve the away day experience. Considering the way the game went as well, Brighton fans on the whole seemed to be quite complimentary towards us as well

Free motorbike parking - about 100 yards outside the away end - and then 2 mins to an empty A27 and the route home. What's not to like.

Even made the last 15 mins of the Villa Burnley match :-)

But yeah - appreciate that's not an option for all. Chatting to a Brighton two wheeler he said that they don't even put on additional trains on a matchday which seems ridiculous.

Suspect if I was a local I'd stay in the club bars for an hour.

the bigger the stadium, the bigger the getting away from the ground issue will be as everyone wants to leave at the same time. A friend of mine is an Arsenal season ticket holder & he regularly leaves games before the end to avoid the dreaded crush. Obviously these problems are far worse with an out of town stadium. Might be bearable with a mid afternoon kick off, but an absolute nightmeare for an evening game & these are now so more common.

It wasn't great but that was pretty common knowledge and therefore easy enough to mitigate.

Easy stroll to/from the #49 bus route that runs through Moulescoomb. Bus every 10mins, no queues. Back at the main station just after 6. Probably only slightly quicker than waiting for the train at Falmer, but no standing around for ages in a queue!

Agree..

My comment was simply that if it were minus two degrees, with wind and rain, queueing for an hour for a train home would be sodding miserable.

They really must maintain their progress as I can't see a lot of appeal of making the effort without being served up great football.

I thoroughly enjoy a trip to Portman Road.

For all of the failings of Ipswich, it does have plenty of decent places for a drink from all directions.

It was absolutely fine, a proper good away day, a much better matchday experience overall compared to the Circus and Manchester City.

But then, we did get into Brighton at 10:18, and get the 13:26 train to Falmer, and then hung about afterwards and got the train from Falmer at 18:15

I find one of the key things for away days, and to make them more enjoyable, give yourself more time!!!

I only went to the City game not Brighton but don't understand the hate personally for the trip to the Etihad.

I live in London so had an easy journey up, found a couple of pubs to watch the Brighton vs United game, then walked for 25 mins to the Etihad where of course it's not a raucous atmosphere but the stadium was nearly full and it was an enjoyable time. The journey home would have been good but for the cancelled train but sounds like the same happened last weekend.

Not saying you are at all, but feel people are very sanctimonious about City and the 'Emptyhad' etc but thought it was a good day out (until the ref started trotting over to the VAR monitor).
