A constitutional monarch is basically a non executive president with added pomp and ceremony.

And then vote the same deranged, racist, democracy overturning, climate change denying sexual predator back in.

At least the RF had the decency to (mostly) hide Andrew away since his behaviour was made public.

The flaws of democracy are not the basis of a sound argument for hereditary power.

How about a non-political head of state and that person could’ve dedicated their life’s to public service or helped the country through a difficult patch. Someone like Chris Whitty or Jonathan Van-Tam.

They can hold post for one electoral term. Independently appointed and strictly non-political as in not been elected representing a party or canvassed support for them.

Something like that would probably get my nod depending on details.

In previous threads on the topic, I've submitted the idea that local communities put forward a worthy who's been a huge asset by way of creating and/or running voluntary schemes looking after others or the environment etc. They then go through rounds of voting, to arrive at the winner, who holds the post for say 2 years only.

The voting bit is key there.

I've softened my stance on the royals though. Maybe King Charles can be an asset in the climate battle to come.

Charles is a grumpy old c**t who seems to like bad mouthing his staff when something doesn't go right. Plus that awful old horse Camilla is usually in tow. I look forward to William and Catherine being King and Queen though. I like those two. They seem genuinely nice people.

I feel this quote appropriate

"The greatest trick the Devil ever pulled was to convince the world he didn't exist."

I know not whether the news man's phrase is true or not or completely fabricated, I mean it's usually Israel + USA v The World isn't it?
But many problems in this world involved American "interference" , again true or not or fabricated to pursue an agenda.

Back to the original point; if Israel has leaked a private (?) letter to another head of state, that would imply a deep penetration of the Iranian state, wouldn't it?
This with the wacky world of exploding devices may also imply the "asset" has been safely extracted (best case scenario), cos if not...
If it was just the Iranians saying "look someone likes us" then get why not?

Would you care to expand on that?

How about five year terms for people who don’t want the job. Bit like jury service. Since it is very much ceremonial and with it I’d get rid of the honours system it would purely be on the basis of public service.

Sorted.

Personally speaking, I think that a head of state has to be recognised and supported nationally.

Everybody should take it in turns to be some kind of executive officer for the week. But all of the decisions taken by that officer would have to be ratified at a special by-weekly meeting, by a simple majority in the case of purely internal affairs, but by a two thirds majority in the case of more major issues.

Listen. Strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government. Supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not from some farcical aquatic ceremony.

Well, opting back in to the green laws (that apply to everyone else) the Royals didn’t fancy to abiding by would be a good place to start. He’s had 16 months since his Coronation, so at the moment it’s looking like he’s all talk.

Tbf to Charlie-boy, he’s not been well and I doubt he’ll hang on as long as his mother.

Enough of being nice - he’s always struck me as nutty as squirrel sh£t. I’ve seen him quite close up a few times (e.g. Remembrance Sunday) and he looked like he needed a handler as he stood there mumbling to himself. I gather he likes the trappings of it all. You know, a flunky putting toothpaste on the brush, making sure the biro works and his copy of Razzle is freshly ironed. But that may all be malicious nonsense.

Nothing will change while he’s still around. William might do something but while the gravy train is rolling for them and those that support them, I have my doubts.

I view the monarchy as an outdated relic but I know that I’m in the minority. I would reluctantly accept the concept of a royal family if by law they all had to pay tax on all of their assets and on all of their income. And for their finances to be published, detailing every penny. Plus the royal family needs to be trimmed back.

I’m in that minority too, Matt. I’ve always felt that way about it.

If it has to be tolerated then your suggestions sit well with me.
