Remember when promotion was secured, people were saying it was worth £250 million to the region?
Has anyone seen any sign of that happening?

Brighton or their council did an impact assessment and found the value contribution was significant in the years of PL status. It was a large number ~£350m ++ probably contained spurious calculations and given Brighton is a weekend break with a city beach, food and night hotspot it’s difficult to work through how much is natural income versus football related but there you go!

I think the town car parks are doing well and petrol station near copdock on the A12 incoming to town is sweeping up 3/4 of all fuel sold in Suffolk on match days.

c.£115m on transfers.

Huge wage increase.

Stadium improvements.

Plus I certainly don't believe £250m was mentioned as an annual figure.

Their Council will have paid ill informed 'consultants' to come up with a number.

I think this number makes sense, isn't it about £100m a year in TV money? Even if a club gets relegated first season they get (roughly I think) 50% of that in the first parachute season and 30% in the second. Thats £180m

Then you can add in more sponsorship/ merchandise/ ticket money for the rest of it which are probably more valuable for a few seasons. That all combined only needs to be roughly £70m over a few seasons for £250m to be believable.

Just read that you said the region not the club! I will leave here so my workings are not wasted.

I think I posted an article about it from the star and was a bit confused. The council still haven't refreshed the lines on my parking space, so I suspect BS

The sum mentioned had nothing to do with TV money or money thrown away on transfers - it was the alleged boost to the local economy. Didn’t seem to take into account the ground was already selling out - and clearly was hugely exaggerated- but I guess TV crews stay in local hotels and away might buy a few pints and some might want to stay overnight. So there’s a small benefit - perhaps all the hype generates a bit of tourism interest - but not a lot. Like most things related to the Prem the boost to the local economy is largely hype.
