Kmc’s reaction to me makes Walton a serious contender to come in for next week.

Muric has been a disastrous signing. No wonder the defence seem a bit all over the place at times with him behind them.

Walton might not be able to move the ball around like Hladky or Muric but you’d have confidence that he wouldn’t make some off the wall mistake.

He wasn't our primary keeper target though was he?

i've just watched the highlights and the camera cuts to McKenna looking rather annoyed - so I suppose they're referring to that

That’s the reaction that I think may offer Walton a chance to come in and be given a chance.

I like Walton as a keeper - always have - this is my case in point. The more he played he got better. For me, he was a better all round keeper than Hladky, but like all players needs a good run of games to build confidence. Burnley fans have seen far more of Muric than all our fans and they were disappointed to see him leave. Give him more time to get established and comfortable in his own skin is all I’m saying.

Is Muric capable of playing out from the back? He's an outstanding keeper, makes superb saves and in general he commands his area well. But with his feet, his decision making isn't good enough. He had some howlers for Burnley and he's had some this season already.

Why? It wasn't Muric who messed up today.

What?? He was in no man’s land for a West Ham effort that they didn’t take, he played the ball straight to Morsy who had a player on his shoulder, took a heavy touch which they capitalised on to score their Fourth. Hardly inspiring for the defence. He’s always got an amazing save in him but he’s also shown already that he’s got more than the odd questionable decision.

Let’s be fair, the heavy touch was from a really poor pass back towards him. GKs aren’t outfield players, however much they feel they could play out on pitch.

Muric has a rik in him almost every game No good making great saves if he can't make the right call I think we should have gone elsewhere on the 6 league games and friendlies.
Improvement definitely required he will make the defence to worried to pass to him and become nervous.

We never seem to learn on here, where we write players off after a handful of games. Muric is still finding his feet with us, getting to know the players and coaching staff, he has also moved from a northern club down to the depths of the south east - a complete change of environment. It takes people time to adjust, although a footballer he still has his insecurities and anxieties like all of us. It would be good if this was factored in before people simply discard players. Thankfully, those people are nowhere near selecting the match-day side.

Thought I’d seen it all, but a professional footballer finding it hard to adjust to “the depths of the south east” after a balmy sojourn in the cosy climes of Burnley is a new one on me. Maybe he’s missing the cheap housing available oop there?

Blimey, such a narrow minded view. If your work asked you to relocate to a different part of the country you’d take to it like a duck to water? I doubt many would, there are various factors that can influence performance. For example, if Muric has a young family, he might have family members that are finding it challenging. Equally, his family might have chosen to stay in the north west, whilst he’s down here training. Do you not think that has any impact on a player’s performance? Because they are footballers and paid handsomely, doesn’t mean outside factors can’t have an influence on them. It’s not just about the football.

It's nearly 4 months.....

And let's be fair to him at least. He's been exactly what burnley fans said he was. A keeper who can pull off a worldie but will cause you problems.

The goalkeeper.com piece basically said he was signed off the back of his shot saying stats were one of the highest against Shots expected to be saved.. buger to the rest of his attributes. Which is basically what we've seen haven't we?

That's not doing him a disservice he just literally has been exactly what we thought we were getting. So no it's not moving from Burnley that's the issue. We've just got exactly what it said on tin.

I'd love to know how moving from Burnley made muric play this ball to morsy.

At what point does that morsy pass look to be the best option.

Greaves passed to muric
Westham two players press o shea and greaves. Phillips and morsy are pressed. The ball goes to morsy...
That's never on.

Exactly this. How people are comparing Walton to Muric I don't know. Have they seen the saves Muric had already pulled off this season. His handling on crosses is superb.

Since when has Walton been known for NOT handling crosses? Wasn't that the main reason people wanted him over hladky at times last season?

I'm not comparing our keepers but at 6 foot 4 gathering crosses should be a given.
His lack of awareness when passing out from the back is horrendous give teams chances every week. At the moment his a liability.

And it's ok to discuss the performances so far without going to far.

If we are to discuss his performances esp where saves are being talked about. According to footy stats
His save % is 61%
Passing completion is just 70%

And the other 30% of his passes results on shots on our goal where he has played a stupid ball.

Walton is a better goalkeeper than Muric.

Some people on here have lost the plot over 1 poor performance where the keeper can do nothing about the 4 goals. He actually stopped it being 6.

In hindsight I think It would have been better to buy an older seasoned professional like Sam Johnstone or Matt Ryan and a young keeper like Rushworth and send him out on loan.

I am not sure whether anyone has mentioned it, but given he seemed so happy to stay, I wonder if it was made clear to Walton that he was not destined to be a permanent no.2, and that this would depend on how Muric got on, given he was known to have an error in him.
