My mate Phil (not Ham) went to school with Steve Harley.

The reporter John Cole was at my mate Chris’ wedding, think he was some distant Norn Ireland relative.

Better to stay silent and be thought a fool than open your mouth and remove all doubt

In our family tree on my mother's side, we have Sampson Lloyd II - the founder of Lloyds Bank (1699-1779), and I also understand Cornelius Edward Osborn (the first chairman of West Ham) is on her Dad's side.

My Nan remarried when she was 76 to an 89yr old Mr Henman, who was, I think, an uncle of Tim Henman (I know definitely related, but can't remember exactly how).

Art Malik was my near-contemporary at school.

A few years older than me were Mike Sarne (#1 hit with Wendy Richard) and Tony McPhee (of The Groundhogs).

I was once on the same flight to Morocco as Art. I recognised him as Art the actor, but not as Athar Malik, prefect at school.

I've referred your disgracefully ageist abuse to the organisations who look into these things.

My Mum used to work in a nursery in the mid 60s, along with Geoff Hurst's wife, and often used to chat to him when he came to pick his wife up, very down-to-earth despite one week turning up with a load of photographers following him as he'd just scored a hat-trick in a World Cup Final.

I had a really good chat with Sean Lock once in the Museum of Childhood in Bethnal Green, as he was there with his kids, and I was there with my son. A really nice bloke, and sadly lost way too young.

He was on his phone and looking quite grumpy, so I didn't say hello.

On a related Essex-based note, one of my cousins was mates with Joe Pasquale growing up.
