Art Malik was my near-contemporary at school. A few years older than me were Mike Sarne (#1 hit with Wendy Richard) and Tony McPhee (of The Groundhogs).

I was once on the same flight to Morocco as Art. I recognised him as Art the actor, but not as Athar Malik, prefect at school. I've referred your disgracefully ageist abuse to the organisations who look into these things.

I had a really good chat with Sean Lock once in the Museum of Childhood in Bethnal Green, as he was there with his kids, and I was there with my son. A really nice bloke, and sadly lost way too young.

I seem to recall he was a neighbour of one of my uncles when he, Gary, was getting one of his first bands together. On a related Essex-based note, one of my cousins was mates with Joe Pasquale growing up.
